Favorite open-world glitch

After having to restart my Just Cause 2 session when my NPC escort character refused to move forward, even after I blasted him in the face TWICE with my previously mounted mini-gun (sending him hilariously careening into the jungle backdrop), I was quick to recall all the other similar glitchy moments I've had in open-world games over the years. GTA, inFAMOUS, Fable, etc., what do you recall as your favorite of these nearly unrepeatable gaming moments?

The car catapulting swing from GTA IV is cool.

Sounds like something that could actually get me to pick that game up again. Elaborate, please!

You really don't know? Look it up on YouTube. I think they've patched it now anyway.

Not really a glitch, but in gta3 there was this cheat code that let your cars float a bit when it went fast enough. After entering that code you could get a tank, shoot behind yourself, and fly.

i think it was in GTAIV, i sunk under the street and fell into the bottomless abyss and landed back on the street

I can't remember exactaly but on GTA San Andreas there was this massive mountain that me and my mate used to go up and the just keep driving off the edge in ridiculas cars. Anyways. There was some lumber yard or something at the base of the mountain and there was a tow truck there. If you got in and drove away another one would eventualy appear. So you'd attach the tow truck to the other tow truck and keep on doing that and I remember once I had a chain of like 10 tow trucks all attached to eachother and I was driving all over like a massive snake.

OMG! I thought I was the only person to do this! Driving a huge train of tow trucks around was just hilarious. But also: you can connect Tractors as well, so if you got bored waiting for the Tow Truck to spawn you could stick a few Tractors in the train to kill time. Also, the mountain you're talking about is Mount Chiliad.

Oh, I didn't know you could do that with tractors... oh well.
I hated tractors anyways, they were so slow and they seemed to be the only thing to pass by when your good car blew up or something. Damn things.

Wow. Massive snake car. I CLEARLY don't try out enough weird stuff in my open-world games.

My favorite open world glitch has to be one I found in GTA Vice City. One day I was playing and was running around what was once Diaz's (I think that's his name, dunno haven't played the game in years) mansion. Being a little evil, I decided to shoot the random guys walking around my mansion. I proceeded to run around my mansion for no reason until I was stopped by a random explosion.  I went outside of the mansion to discover an exploded ambulance up against the wall surrounding the mansion. Perplexed at what happened, I attempted to recreate the scenario. After letting the game reset itself, I shot some guys in my mansion and went outside the surrounding fence. To my delight an ambulance came and started to scrape against the wall, in an attempt to reach my recent victim. After going a certain distance, the ambulance pulled a u-turn and proceeded to scrape against the wall going the opposite way. It followed this figure eight path until it exploded. Ah pathfinding at it's greatest.

These sound pretty hilarious, I love how they are all GTA too.

I had this crazy glitch happen to me in Saints Row 1: Im just casually strolling along the coast, when all of the sudden an old lady falls from the sky and crashes either into the ground or the water (I can´t remember exactly). Now, a lot of weird stuff happened to me in SR1, most of which was probably related to a scratched up disc. Also had a lot of roads not properly loading in that game. Always a good time when you fail a mission, because you fall through the road!

Much laughter was had over this glitch.

I remember in GTA4 when you`d jack a car and sometimes people would try to get back in but end up just hanging onto the handle as you drive through town. One guy just refused to let go until i drove the car off a ramp and crashed into a tree. Course that might just be someone with crazy grip and not a glitch.

Oh and I also like when you grapple onto a boat in JC2 and proceed to shoot the driver in the face, where he just goes flying into the back of the boat and he gets stuck in it, thunking loudly as he hits the bar on top and the back of the boat, all while creating a red stream of blood particles.

Well this is natural, the GTA series has to be one of the most glitchy series I've ever seen. Surprisingly I've yet to find a game breaking glitch, just a lot of little ones that make for a good laugh.

On Assassin's Creed 2 I triggered a glitch that made me move up buildings and run across wires three times as fast.

When playing Just Cause 2 (I think it was actually the demo), I got in a shootout with some dudes, and they called in backup. After fighting for a bit, I was low on health, and decided to get away, so I tried to get into the car that the backup came in via the passenger side. As you probably know, when you get in from that side, it does an animation of you switching seats to the driver side. Well, right as I hit the button to get in, an enemy tried to get in the car from the driver's side, at the exact same time. The result? Me and this enemy soldier just sitting in the car, awkwardly, not doing anything. He didn't start driving, so I had to get out to keep the game going, but I found it incredibly hilarious nonetheless.

Not sure how open world you could call it. but I use to love the map glitches in Midtown Madness 3. Especially online, no one would do anything productive except exploit the glitches. There were some really odd ways to get to them, such as specific jumps and such.

Spent hours doing that with mates.

@takua108:  That sounds like a slash-fiction just waiting to be written. Rico and The Thug and their horrible blind date.

GTA4 had a nasty glitch that I found pretty hysterical. The street would open up into a gaping, bottomless maw. Naturally, the AI had no idea, so they'd drive or walk in with hilarious results.

I encountered it twice, both times under the subway near Roman's apartment in the beginning of the game. When it happened the first time I was pissed, since I had to reset the console to get it to go away--reloading a save didn't work. The second time I thought I'd have some fun, so I got up my wanted level and watched as legions of police cars, cruisers, and SWAT vans careened into the black hole that had opened up on Hove Beach.

Though definitely not a favorite anything, inFAMOUS gave me an open-world headache that was only fixed by dying to reset whatever glitch it was I'd triggered. While playing through a mission, I found that I was starting to fall through the street, slowly, like it was quicksand. A quick jump or two would put me back on the surface, but as soon as my soles hit the pavement, I'd start to sink again. Standing on objects like lampposts and wires negated the glitch but every rooftop I leapt to brought the same issue.

This, coupled with a mission-ending glitch that failed to provide my next target/waypoint meant I had to fall through the street and backtrack through an already frustrating battle to get where I needed to be. Just another of the elements that led me drop that game before the final battle.

I love in Just Cause 2 how once an enemy dies they become almost completely weightless, leading to tons of dead-body-juggling fun.
