top 20 favorite games... ever!

It's strange the things we connect with, that have an effect on our lives. This is a list of games that I feel connected to. They are wonderful enjoyable experiences that I feel proud to have experienced.

List items

  • I remember playing this game with it first came out. I didn't have the money to buy it, so I rented it. I played the game for 6 days straight. I had never been locked into a game that much. This game has everthing I love. It's an incredible unexpected journey of friends crisscrossing through time to save the world from an alien threat. It's the perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy. What you do in the past will effect the future. Travel from the end of time to the magical ancient Kingdom of Zeal. I can't think of a better gaming experience than this one. The music (composed by Yasunori Mitsuda) is amazing and sets the tone of emotion throughout the journey. At the end you don't want to leave and you feel like you're leaving good friends behind. A masterpiece.

  • This game is the height of the Final Fantasy series, in my opinion. It is a near perfect work of 16 bit art. The music is my favorite from Nobou Uematsu's long list of game soundtracks. The art is some of the best on the SNES. The story is unforgettable and the character interaction leaves you with some of the most memorable scenes in gaming. From the opening Narshe march scene to the opera to the Esper world. It's an emotional story of friends coming together to fight a great evil. I can never really decide which game is better, Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI

  • This is the game that got me into jrpg's. I remember hearing the title music and thinking, wow.. this is a game? It's so beautiful. I felt like this game was on another level from the types of games I had played in the past. I felt like I was entering a whole type of experience. The art is as beautiful as the music. It's a sword wielding action rpg that with the right gear you can play co-op with 2 extra friends. There's not much out there like it. I find myself quite often wishing for more co-op jrpgs like this. I go hunting for them online but find nothing. It's an unusual unforgettable gaming experience that I think about often

  • It's a darker world than FFVI with cast of unforgettable characters that you really do care about. Not everything ends happy in this game. The music helps you to feel the emotional state of the characters and their experiences. Like most Final Fantasy games, it's an epic save the world character driven story that leaves you wanting more. Some would say this is the greatest game ever made and people constantly clamor for a more polished remake of the game.

  • I could almost group this game in with Final Fantasy VII. It's a prequel telling the story of Zack Fair, an important character that is only talked about in flashbacks. As you play this game you see how important he really is in the world of FFVII. Very well could be my favorite character in any Final Fantasy game. A goofy character that stands for honor and what is just, that is willing to sacrifice himself for what is right even while he's left alone and abandoned. Music is amazing. Game play is action oriented and fun, but the story is what shines the most and is the reason to play.

  • There is a lot that puts this game in this list. It's a beautifully realized world that was cohesively put together. Really created by one guy, Eric Chahi. There isn't really any dialogue but the atmosphere and beautifully constructed cutscenes tell a larger story. It's amazing how atmosphere level design can envoke real emotion. It's about a character that accidentally gets transported to another world (Dimension, future, past, alien planet maybe) and tries to find his way home or at least to safety. Cause this world is far from safe. You end up befriending a native to that world and you help each other to escape. The animations and cinematic cut scenes at the time were mind blowing. Playing the game 20 years later it still holds up.
