Hey duders, I'm making this thread solely because I just finished 999 for the first time and was absolutely shocked at how well it all wrapped up. I don't want to spoil it for other people, but although the actual game was incredibly flawed, the way it tied together its plot using twists on common video game aspects impressed me way way more than I ever expected. What other games out there do you think deserve recognition for the ingenious ways it tells its story? The Metal Gear Solid series is probably one of the more obvious answers, but maybe there are some hidden gems out there people could recommend to everyone?

+ Muse on the Drones tour

+ Dream Theater in Radio City Music Hall

+ Thank You Scientist in an incredibly cramped place in Jersey City on my birthday; played "Blood on the Radio" and "Psychopomp" back-to-back, which may be my two favorite songs

+ Haken a few days ago; one of the most talented musicians around today - highly recommend them.

Saw Gojira in Kansas City a few months ago, CO headline with Opeth. they played my favorite song Flying Whales in its entirety. Also got my favorite album signed by them. It was awesome. Opeth...not so much lol

what's wrong with Opeth?

Not me, but an acquaintance of mine in high school put in around $400 into one of those wait-mobile games (you know, like Clash of Clans); can't remember the name (don't pay attention to these sorts of games), but I think it started with "Battle", followed by another word. Haven't seen the guy since I graduated, but I just remember hearing about how pissed his parents were then.

I'd just like to say that I didn't realize that this thread was started almost nine years ago at first; after reading the first few entries, I was wondering why people seemed to have incredibly weak specs, with hardware I never heard of (because I was only 12 back then, and didn't follow this stuff)...

@csl316: I wouldn't mind seeing X, but those games get super tough and require some pinpoint accuracy on those dash jumps.

Not saying the X games are a walk in the park, but aren't the original NES ones still a lot harder overall?

Anything on the N64 that wasn't F-Zero or Smash Bros; other than that though, I can't think of anything.

Assassin's Creed Unity, bugs aside, is my favorite in the series. Syndicate felt like a dumbed-down Unity in every aspect.

As someone who doesn't want to sit through those movies (not a fan at all), thanks for this

Absolutely; you obviously don't get the added benefit of growing up alongside the series, but I think they're solid films. The first two may seem a little too "kiddie" at times, but all of them are very entertaining for me (particularly 3 and 6)....well, except for the scene in 4 with the dancing introductions.

@liquiddragon "it's phenomenon has puzzled me most of my life."

I was in the prime demographic when Harry Potter was at its peak, and I can say with certainty that there's really never been any kind of entertainment like it. By that, I mean with respect to the way I grew up alongside those characters. When Harry started liking girls, I did too; when Harry had to start taking up more responsibilities, I did too. It was just a series I could consistently relate to over its 10 or so year stretch, and it was all backed up by some solid stories and well made adaptations. My parents loved it simply because it got my siblings and I to all read at younger ages (I remember brining my 700+ page copy of Goblet of Fire to 2nd grade class...). I think that's the reason why it truly was a phenomenon, and while I still standby the notion that it's still worth going through it all, just know that you did kind of miss out on its biggest draw.
