Hey Bombers,

I am moving from New York City to the lovely-most-of-the-time city of Vancouver.

Now, I have a lot of stuff I want to take with me to college, but I am flying there so space is at a premium. I am putting my Playstation 3 in a backpack, and will hopefully be able to take it on the plane and get to my final destination without breaking it. I also have a lot of games, though. A majority of them are Xbox games, and most of them are pretty old, but some might be worth taking, right?

Also, my Mass Effect saves are on my Xbox 360 that I am leaving here. Should I do something with those for Mass Effect 3?

What do you guys think is worth taking with me? I will be taking most of the PS3 games, and probably leaving most of the Xbox games...

My advice is to stick all of those games in a Case Logic type folder and store the boxes at home.

Don't take video games to college.

I stick all my games and dvds in a big cd wallet when I go to and from Uni. Its perfect for the size problem although I guess weight might still be an issue for you

Not sure if its just me but, I cringe every time I see friends or pics of game/video cases not alphabetical order (yes, I have reorganized friends shelves for them and they just laugh at me)...sorry >.<

Honestly take what you know would be good co-op based games or drunk games (if you like to party on weekends) otherwise just take what you feel is high replay value (aka Infamous, LBP, Portal)...

Pfft. Most Canadians hardly have an accent. If you want to hear Canadians with a "Canadian" accent, you'd probably have better luck in the Maritimes; even if you did go to the Maritimes, you still might have a problem finding someone with that sort of accent. It's just one of those things that a lot of people stereotype about Canadians to set them apart from their closely-resembling neighbours, the Americans (Yes, we are very much alike, no matter how you slice it).

For sure man, don't do it, Jay.  Stick to the books, and the occasional party.  Forget games a little 'till school is done.  Unless you have a strong dedication to your studies, games will only be a detrimental distraction (we all know how time goes by too quickly when we game).

Normally I wouldn't suggest bringing any video games to college, with the exception of perhaps party games, like Mariokart, Goldeneye, etc. Because your shit might get jacked/broken and you probably won't have a lot of time to play unless you are a social recluse or don't study. I only took my DS with me when I went to Canada to study since my PAL consoles were to bulky to brink and would not work in Canada anyway. However I ended up spending most of my free time in the lounge where a dude had his PS2. Never been to Vancouver, but I've been to British Columbia and the people were as nice as they were in Alberta. You should have no trouble befriending someone local who already has a game console. At one point I somehow ended up at a SOCOM party where we played SOCOM on a massive 50" screen (this was in 2005 when that was still considered to be a big ass TV).

My point is that even if you don't bring your console there is going to be plenty of opportunities to play video games. Whatever you do make sure to have fun. I really miss those days. I'd trade my 360, big HDTV and speakers to play PS2 on the CRT in the lounge in Canada with the friends I had over there again.

Yes. Moving from NYC to Squamish is going to be a huge change. Luckily, I love snowboarding and biking, so it should be an idea location for me.

I know, it sucks. Hopefully I will get some Battlefield 3 in, but it will probably be on a console, and I probably won't be able to invest 200+ hours like I did with BC2. You have fun without me, though :(

I am going to Vancouver for University this coming school year as well, but I'm going to UBC. 
Also, don't listen to the people who can't control themselves. Take some games.

@Julius: Neat, UBC looks like a lot of fun. Where are you moving from?

@Jayross: Quest University? The one up in Squamish? Interesting... I remember hearing about that years ago when I was on the board of governors at Capilano. Don't know a whole lot about it... I believe it is one of the private institutions that operates in BC, and not a part of the traditional system. I think they're accredited from an American source... I couldn't tell you what it is off hand, but you should be able to look it up on their website. I'd look into that as you may have an issue transferring to another academic institution with your credentials if they aren't recognized by any other Universities (We already have this issue in the public post-secondary system in Canada as it stands with students travelling between Western and Eastern Universities because they aren't all members of the AUCC). If you're thinking about ever continuing with a Masters from a U.S. institution than you should be ok if the accrediting body has good ties to other schools down there.

Squamish is real pretty! The Chief is a great hike, and not very far from where you would be. I hope you enjoy your stay! The high school students only go crazy with riots every now and then. It's not usually an issue. ;)

Don't listen to people telling you not to bring your games. I currently go to a notoriously hard/time consuming engineering school, and I manage to play video games probably between 5-10 hours a week. Games are a great getaway from studying, and sometimes your friends aren't available to hang out. Obviously, balancing your school work, social life, and games are important, but seeing as you are a person that regularly posts on a video game forum, games probably have some significant value to you.

Like some others have said, you should pack all your games into a cd case and not make any tough decisions. It sucks that you can't take your xbox due to the region-lock stuff, though. Best of luck in school

@Rasgueado: Okay, thanks for the info. The school is accredited by BC. I am looking forward to Squamish as well. I have hiked the chief twice and enjoyed it quite a bit.
