@matatat: But everyone is like that, especially teenagers. Though to be honest teenagers generally don't talk like they do in films and games, especially when it's written by a French studio. It's a hyper realised version of my age group's (30+) memories of high school mixed with a good dose of John Hughes movies. At least that's how I see it and that worked for me and most of my friends who played it - and to be fair some really nasty stuff happens in the game. Episode 4 gets really dark.

@dudeglove:

Oh please, you know I don't have that level of imagination...They need to stop with all these release versions. It makes Capcom look positively benign.

@grandcurator: No Jubei = riot.

@boozak

Lovecraftian generally refers to the ideas of madness and despair that permeate Lovecraft's works and have been co-opted by many others. Cosmic or Psychological horror also trip this line. It's inherent premise is that whatever you do and however much you fight, you will not and cannot win. In fact everything you do is as irrelevant as a single ant to a human. This is why it tends to work so well in a Victorian setting (due to colonial setting and the unknown/uncertainty of the times) and Lovecraft wrote around that time period (1920s).

So yes, Silent Hill is most certainly Lovecraftian. As is Alien, Dead Space, Twin Peaks, Hellraiser, Berserk etc etc etc. Body horror is one of the lesser aspects but is popular due to the imagery and psychological effect it has on people.

*rolls eyes* Warframe. Should have known..

She's not evil.

But she kills the Jedi masters you saved and is the final boss so nope, she's just a Sith Lord and evil.

I viewed that as her taking revenge for their behaviour (or lack thereof) during the Mandalorian Wars and them wanting to kill you/strip you of the force. If Kriea can be viewed as evil through her actions then the Jedi, with their bullshit about not involving themselves with the war, are just as guilty. I also viewed her as the last boss being her final sacrifice to make sure that as her pupil you passed her final test. It's one of those clichés that the student must overcome their master etc etc. To be fair I played it with the restored content mod so that may colour my thoughts on the matter

@i_stay_puft: Yeah, BBC coverage wasn't great on details but it was exciting enough to keep watching.

@tbk:Poetic licence...adds gravitas.

@brodehouse: Bowie is as Bowie does.

I'd tend to agree. I'd rather drive cars I could potentially buy one day along a great bit of digital landscape rather than around the same ring time and again. Then again there's also something about racing lines that fascinates me..I dunno. I think I probably find the mechanics of the race as interesting as the cars themselves.

Thanks for reading

Online will keep you going..buy it if you think you can play it on your 2ds okay. Try the demo first to see if it will make a difference to your old habits from 3u.

Also each game is distinct enough that I still play 3U and Freedom Unite while playing 4U so no guilt necessary..

Am I the only one who thinks that Claire now looks like Katee Sackhoff? After seeing her in the Power/Rangers thing the other day I just see Starbuck(s) everywhere.

I've played the Claire part through..I didn't have any problems with the frame rate on my PC and it played..er..okay I guess. I found the movement animations a little off, I don't think the enemies felt the impact of the weapons particularly well, the enemy design were better than Revelations 1 but that's not hard. I also had a hard time with Claire's CQC as opposed to Moira who was a little OP with that flashlight. I thought that Moira was actually well written given her age, situation and mild parody of Elle. Nice to see that 'not pyramid head' has gotten work again.

TBH it just felt like a shittier version of Evil Within, just without those god awful bosses.

Also Kafka..first it was Dante now it's Kafka. Pretty sure it's first year Lit students who write this stuff.

Edit: Raid mode is dope though
