Buddy I'm so sorry, my wife is a teacher in NY and her school is doing something very similar. We're very lucky because we are young and healthy and not trying to have a kid but we have teacher friends with health issues who are going through the same BS as you and being told they're only option is taking a leave of absence.

Teachers are treated as disposable in this country and asked to do everything with insanely modest resources. It's disgusting that you're being forced to make this impossible choice and asked to clean up the mess that our useless government has made of the pandemic.

One friend who teaches with my wife has a heart condition and her doctor told her she would die if she got covid. She took a leave of absence when her school announced they would be doing hybrid (virtual and in person). She can't really afford it either (who could seriously) but did it with assumption that in the next month or two cases would spike enough that her school would go back to all virtual and she could teach again.

My wife found being vocal about this in her union meeting helped other people come forward about. It hasn't changed much or anything really but at least made her feel less isolated and helped her connect with other union members who felt the same. Maybe eventually they'll get the union to fight back more.

I wish I had some more useful advice or anything comforting. It's so cruel to do this to anyone but they're using teachers love for their kids and job against them in a uniquely nasty way.

Installed the new PSU and put the 1070 back in. Everything has been stable and worked perfectly so far. I don't want to jinx it but it does seem like the PSU upgrade solved all my problems. Thanks so much, I would never thought of this without y'all

Thanks again everyone, couldn't have asked for better help. I'll update once the new PSU gets here and I manage to install it.

@pixelrat: The card is picked up and functional after a full system reboot so I think it is just temporarily disabled after the crash. I put my old 760 back in for now to be safe and won't put my PC under any heavy loads for now. I ordered the PSU I posted, hopefully these crashes didn't do any permanent damage to my 1070.

@zelyre: Cool, thanks for the info. I measured my current PSU and found one the same size that's 750 watt 80+ Gold by EVGA. Seems like on the off chance my problem is separate from the PSU it will still be smart to upgrade the PSU.

@yabbering_yeti: I definitely think your on to something with the psu, after sitting for a while I limited the power consumption on the gpu with the overclocking software I had no problems with games but after hour or so periods of play I got the same crashes again. I'm going to get my hands on a new power supply.

Thanks everyone

I bought and installed a GTX 1070 last Friday, updated to the latest drivers (372.54) and enjoyed perfect performance up until two days ago. When playing games and alt-tabing my display would go dark and monitor would lose signal but my machine would stay on and I'd still have audio. After googling for advice and removing drivers with DDU, rolling back to the old drivers off the cd that game with the 1070 I'm left worse off than before no matter what driver version I'm using.

As it is now I can't play anything for more than a few minutes without a crash. Post crash my gpu is not recognized and I assume my pc is using the onboard gpu because the 1070 won't show up in CPUID.

I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge, this is my first real upgrade to my pc other than adding RAM, any help anyone feels like giving would be fantastic.

Thanks!

I would love to build my own PC but I know barely anything about it and I'm going to be very busy for the next year or so. I figured that this cpu is powerful enough that I could use the machine to learn more by upgrading things one by one starting with the video card.

I'm thinking of offering $550 for this. I have a very cursory knowledge of PC hardware and I'd like to be able to play stuff like BF3 at medium to high settings. It seems to me this machine could do that but I'd love advice from more experienced fellows.

Thanks!
