Alright so straight up, here´s the games that left the biggest impressions of me
after sucking in loads of E3 video and over 20 hours of GameSpots Live
show.
Starting with an overall Hype top 10 and then some special categories.
Games may appear in both
lists.
--------------------------------------------------
Overall Hype Top
10
10. Uncharted 2 - Among Thieves
Looks simply amazing. Every graphical flaw of the first game seems corrected. The cinematic experience of the game seems like its cranked up to 11 and from the pieces of story I´ve seen I´m very intrigued to see where it goes. Looks like a real heavyweight for this fall !
09. Alan Wake
Actually seeing someone playing Alan Wake almost cooled the hype for it. The fact that Alan Wake is a game and not some legend deep down kinda takes you down to earth again. This does not mean however. that this game will be anything else than a masterpiece when it comes out. The setting, the narrative, the action and the characters should really keep a story junkie like me glued to the screen !
08. Wet
I always knew this game had potential and when I heard about the publisher problems earlier this year I was really bummed out. After seeing Bethesda pick it up and seeing some demos of it on E3 I am as pumped as I can be for this Tarantino esque, grindhouse, over the top splatter/action fest.
07. Dragon Age - Origins
You´ve all heard it a 100 times by now. The spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate. Yea, I´m one of those old school PC RPGers that dived into BG and BG2 back in the day. Awesome Metal trailers and the promise of loads of blood and sex only hypes me up even more!
06. Mass Effect 2
It was really interesting to hear the interview´s with the Bioware doctors. They really listed all things wrong with the first game and everyone of them are being fixed. texture pop in, framerate, interruptable dialogues, shorters loads, better sidemissions and a darker grittier story. An improved Mass Effect has craazy potential. Looks sharp !
05. Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain is really what this industry needs and this E3 proved it even more. Listening to Cage demoing his work of love is like hearing pure wisdom. I could not agree more with what that guy has to say. An adult interactive story is really what I want, and I want it now !
04. Bayonetta
Been pumped for this one since it was announced and seeing it in such a polished state as it is in right now is really something out of this world. 60fps fluid, supercool action with loads of self distance and humor. It both looks and sound unique and the DMC junkie in me is screaming for this one at the moment.
03. Brütal Legend
This is probably the game that made the biggest jump in hype for me. From being mildly hyped to being super duper pumped up for its release. This game demoed really well at the liveshow I watched. I got to see what I needed. I got to see insane graphics and artstyle, some awesome sidecharacters and enough gameplay to really get a feel for what it means to play Brütal Legend. Tim Shafer is also one cool dude..
02. Super Mario Galaxy 2
Take one of the best platformers and one of the absolute finest games ever created and give me another ride with new suits and Yoshi and im ALL THERE. The announcement of Galaxy 2 really made me jump out of my seat. I actually did not expect it so soon. YES !
01. Secret of Monkey Island SE + Tales of Monkey Island

The SCUMM bar.
The Monkey Island revival that happened during this year´s E3 was so big for me personally that the interest in everything else just faded away a bit. The Monkey Island franshise hold such a huge place in my heart that it cannot be described in a blog. I´ve been having this totally impossible dream that someday, somewhere I might get to enjoy an XBLA version of the original and maybe, someday, a new game in the franshise. But I´ve always known in the back of my head that it was a totally dumb and impossible dream...then this happened. Both the new and the SE of the old looks absolutely amazing. Read my previous blogposts for more details and opinions about this.
