@bisonhero: It might be a test run of the concept. The fact that others pointed out of all the games being available on VC suggests it may be more of a package deal and novelty than a shift in strategy, but who knows? We'll know more next year.
@dougfunk15: I don't think it did get a pass, though I also don't think they broke any promises, either. The only thing I can think of that's missing is the store (which as a DLC repository makes sense), and a cinematic story mode, which was said to be a late update from its announcement.
I think the game is disappointing, too, but without a working test of its online function, the review is almost meaningless.
@kalli: The answer seems to boil down to craft in the first case, and ambition and story in the second. Witcher doesn't break like Fallout, and it had writing chops unmatched by video games as a whole that need to be acknowledged.
Also in all seriousness, play FFIX next. It actually has real gameplay mechanics and likable characters and a story that partially makes sense. 99% teenage angst free!
I support this petition, FFIX being another one of those games that looked real neat and drove me off before I could finish it for reasons I won't spend time going into.
................. Gosh, maybe I should do my own series on that game. I wonder if it's on Steam...
