So the last great hope for mechs on consoles (other than Armored Core) was this neat little indie project called Hawken.

PFFT - hope crushed today as the devs come out with a VentureBeat article announcing they are PC F2P just like MWO.

And I let out a giant sigh of regret for my fallen mech genre... Say, MechAssault 2 will play on a 360, right? Oh yah - that game was terrible. Good Times.

I have determined two immutable laws as a result of reading all this :

1) you guys are f---ing crazy

and

2) I Love You.

so if I read the specs correctly on CryEngine3, that means I'll have to drop roughly $150 if I want to play this game.

I love me some Mechwarrior, but man, that's a lot of cash just for one game.

The thing you should realize is that they are disappointed too. None of the publishers would fund the game that you wanted and that they wanted to make. So they are literally putting their company on the line with this MWO initiative. They are saying to hell with you publishers - we are going to make this game anyways.

Actually the nail in the coffin on the big Single Player game was the PS3 restriction so if you want to go after someone, go after MS for not letting them make a PS3 version.

The point is that rather than give up they are going ahead and making the best game they can.

@Metal_Mills said:

I just realized the MadCat won't be in it as it's pre-clans. Surely we'll get a predecessor MadCat 0 or something.

not quite...

the game takes place during the clan invasion so it would be unlikely that you wouldn't get to play the mad cat.

Also, the Mad Cat is probably the most recognizable mech even more so than the Atlas so I would be shocked if they didn't let you pilot one.

I must say I'm a bit puzzled by the lack of coverage on this game. Joystiq, Kotaku and Giant Bomb all kind of looked the other way when this was announced on Monday. Kinda bummed about that.

edit: it's just Giant Bomb that's giving Mechwarrior the shaft. That's fine...

also, Russ clearly wants to do a campaign - just can't fund it yet

@DrKlep I wouldn't call this an MMO friend. Round based combat.

this is America - we have a right to ignorant opinions and to convince others of their veracity.

Come on guys, this is video games - is it really so important that everyone "think through" their comments before making them? Might we be taking ourselves just a bit too seriously here?
