Review structure.

Not sure how to start this, but here goes...

Just finished my Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters review and tried a more on-the-fly structure. Talking about things as they occur to me, still maintaining some structure though so it's not rabble. Anyway, I think I'll go with this style for a bit.

Overall I think both styles of reviewing have their strenghts, a structured review keeps you on topic and can avoid the pit-fall of constantly saying "it's like this game..." but sometimes a more personal opinion can give you more of an idea about how you'll enjoy a game.

I think it's a shame that written reviews are often passed up for video ones in this day and age, I'm not surprised by this but I still think a written review speaks more for the game.

MGS4 for £10 on play.com

I really hope I'll enjoy this, the main reason why I couldn't get into MGS3 was because the gameplay felt a little too behind the times. Hopefully with MGS4 that won't be the case, great price too. This is normally at least £20 - £30 in most places.

Granted it's cheaper platinum, but I hate platinum cases.

Removing the presentation segment from my reviews...

In the middle of writing my Bionic Commando review at the moment and I just can't be bothered with this aspect anymore...

Since the introduction of the PS3 and 360 there has really been no point in commenting on the technical aspect of the game. Granted there were one or two early titles that looked pretty bad, like the original Condemned, let us not forget Dead or Alive 4 though. Easily still one the best looking games to date.

Anyway, my point being that unless a game truly has stunning presentation either in a negative or positive way it will remain absent from my reviews. Every game that is released these days has decent production values due to the nature of the gaming market. By that I mean they are too many people that will buy anything if the graphics are good and wouldn't know decent gameplay if it kicked them in the face.

The main thing that has made me do this is playing the PSP a lot, when a portable system has the power to rival a previous console I think it's safe to say that commenting on every games technical aspect is rather pointless.

Gotta love the PSP.

I'm staying at my girlfriends house right now and only have my PSP with a few games. I don't play it that much but everytime I sit back for a good session the quality of the games on it always amazes me. Just finished playing through the Ratchet and Clank on it and enjoyed it even more than Tools of Destruction, it seemed to stick closer to what I loved about the original R.A.C. due to the limitations of the handheld platform.

Bring on November 2, can't wait to see what Kratos will be getting up to :)

Swinging in Bionic Commando.

What's the big deal about this?

When this game first came out all I heard from people and the web was how hard it was to master swining about. Even though most of the places online where I heard that from were places that absolutely nothing about games but still, I was expecting a very deep gameplay mechanic.

I'm finding it so easy, and not to mention fun! Swinging around the city is incredibly enjoyable and there really isn't much to it.

I knew I'd played a lot of games, but...

Was making a list just now of all the games I've ever played. I got to over 100 in less than 10 minutes and hadn't even made a dent in them.

It's amazing when I look back at how long I've been into games and seeing how far they've come. I'm gonna get all nostalgic when nightmare creatures arrives.

Nightmare Creatures is on its way!

Right, after roughly 11 years I am getting this game. I played the demo waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day when PS1 magazines used to come with the old fashioned demo disks, you know; that part that actually made it worth paying £5 for a magazine because you got about 12 new demos to try out.

I can't wait to play this, should be awesome fun. Time to put on my old-scholl hat :)

Finally upgraded my 360 HD.

And no, not by buying the new console.

Found a 120GB drive for £30, and I can finally download more than one demo at a time.

The core 20GB really isn't much if you have a game installed, not to mention the fact that you don't actually get the full 20GB anyway.
