Top 10 Favorite Franchises

List items

  • This series succeeds as a whole, the continuity found in each of the games and the way the story unfolds is among the best in gaming. Resident Evil has that quintessential attribute, the perfect combination between quality games, awesome atmosphere, interesting characters, unique gameplay and a style that sets it apart from the rest. Resident Evil has that charm and attention to detail that every memorable game have. All that make this series one-of-a-kind in its genre.

  • Super Mario is Super Mario, nothing better to describe it. There's nothing like it, for its industry-changing games, its innovations, its quality, its rich history in gaming. Though Mario has taken some time away from platforming in each of the various spin-off series released by now, some of them got to be more than mere cash-ins using a simplified gameplay and accessible approach, like Super Mario Kart, that now is a pretty established series. The main series is as important as it can get, and with outstanding quality almost always.

  • Pokemon too has numerous spin-offs and cash-ins along the way as a franchise, but the greatness of the main games is not something to be messed with. As addictive as cocaine the Pokemon games raised themselves to become one of the most profitable and easy-selling franchises in the world. Though the best Pokemon games are from at least a decade ago, the more recent games still carry the quality known by player all around the world. Let's just hope Pokemon continues delivering the goods.

  • Like some franchises there were times when Mega Man shone brighter, the time period in question goes from Mega Man 1 to Mega Man 6 in the 8-bit era. I'm not really fond of any of those RPG games and spin-off released with the Mega Man name, you can find countless handheld releases that may or not be good, but are certainly saturated. Recently with Mega Man 9 and 10 Capcom righted the wrongs made in the past. Poor Mega Man, never got along with 3D and advanced graphics, if Mega Man doesn't fit with modern graphics, it's modern graphic's loss, not Mega Man's.

  • I like Donkey Kong franchise this much primarily because of Donkey Kong Country, but there's no denying that the main franchise too has some gems and is of extreme importance to gaming. After all, want it or not, the three Country games also belongs to this, so it has a place on my list.

  • I loved the first Banjo-Kazooie, it's probably my favorite game of all time, but I have to agree the series as a whole did not work so well. Banjo-Tooie was a disappointment and the next big Banjo-Kazooie game released was Nuts and Bolts which I can label as disappointing as well. My next favorite game Banjo ever appeared might be Diddy Kong Racing. Nonetheless, the first game itself can hold the series pretty well, and it will always have firepower for more than what we've seen up until now. So I'm putting it on the list, last place though.
