I absolutely love the look of this game (these kind of sci fi universes are high up there for me), and it looks like it can be a lot of fun gameplay-wise at the right moments. But, the roguelite element to it makes it such a hard sell for me. If it hadn't been a roguelite and a more "normal" single player story game I would have most likely instantly bought it however, especially since it sounds like each run ends up being way too long without the option to save in between. (Also never been much of a fan of randomly generated levels when they just end up being room x, y and z are just jumbled around in different orders every time)

@alistercat: Was never a thing for me at least, and I'm slightly older than Ben. Kinda vaguely remember having heard about it at some point, but the actual first exposure to it would really be the movie as it was in the cinemas here. But the cartoon and comic was never a thing at least (in Norway)

Ito Masahiro (the guy that designed Silent Hill monsters) being the monster designer is about the only interesting thing about this game for me, everything about playing it just seems like a huge chore and not fun at all, at least from watching the vids they have showed so far.

@escapevelocity: And I will definitely be giving this a shot at it! From what I have seen of it so far at least I think I can get into it from the angle of it feeling sort of similar to the BAM farming I did in Tera when I played that hardcore, so that alone is a pretty good thing for me. Also good to hear from people like yourself who seem to be fairly invested into it just to understand a bit more why you like it as much as you do, especially when it's as "dense" a game as MH feels to those of us sort of out of the loop on the series.

@escapevelocity: I'm definitely as interested as I'll ever be in a MH game, so will most likely give this one a shot. Most likely as a physical copy in case it doesn't click with me so I can at least trade it in if nothing else.

But, yea, think it's a bit, again, like Humanity is saying that it feels sort of impenetrable unless you're already in with the full concept of MH such as you see it. From my point of view, at least, I think the added showing of the damage numbers bouncing up from the monster just makes the point of a health bar not being there even more prominent. I can definitely understand your point of view though, it's just hard to wrap one's head around and get into if you haven't really been into the MH games before.

To take the Tera comparison I had earlier a bit further, I loved soloing the BAMs (Big Ass Monsters) in that game and those could be an absolute slog unless you were like raid geared, especially when playing a warrior, so the idea of downing some big beast or monster is something I know can be very rewarding. But, there was always a lifebar that made the progress you made on the monster feel a bit more tangible than what it seems to be in MH. Sure, you can see the beast limping and such after awhile, but at other times it can seem so chaotic that it's hard to judge what kind of damage you've actually done or not, and that's where I would have liked to have a lifebar of some sort at least.

@humanity: I kinda have the same feelings as you about it. My only experience playing a MH game is from playing the beta of the first game on PS2 and after that I've had zero interest in playing, but this game is the first time I've even been mildly interested since then so think I will give it a try.

If they had just had some kind of boss life bar on the big monsters though I think it would have been way easier for me to see the appeal as the fights often have the feel of a MMO boss fight where there's very little prominent feedback as to how you're doing, but in a MMO there's at least that lifebar to keep you updated on how well you're doing at chipping away at something.

Edit: Also, the bow weapon gameplay Jason is showing off in this vid makes me think of the archer class in Tera, even some of the animations look kinda similar to me, which just further gets my mind onto it looking like MMO combat, I guess.

@cr0ssbow: That I sadly have no idea about. Not played the beta myself and won't be getting the full game on PS4 either. I'm guessing that the Pro will have some potential to increase graphical fidelity and maybe resolution as well even with a framerate prioritization, but hopefully Digital Foundry will have something up pretty soon to show off all the console variations.

@cr0ssbow: He says at the end that it is on a Pro, yea, and set to prioritize framerate from what I could understand.

Really good list, Rorie! Happy to see AC: Syndicate up there too as it is one of my absolute favourites this year. It has even managed to knock down AC2 as my fav AC game. Played it on Xbone myself, but good to hear it sounds like it's running well on PC too this year, unlike Unity.
