Best of 2011

These are what I thought were the best games of 2011!

List items

  • I hate to say it, but this was my favorite game of the year by far. I know I'm supposed to pick Skyrim, but as soon as I finished this game I immediately started my 2nd play through. Then when that was finish I immediately started my 3rd play through!

  • I don't think anything needs to be said about this. I snuck up behind a dragon and one hit it. Seriously, how much more fun could I possibly have.

  • Speaking of sneaking up on things. I loved the level design, the story, the developing my character, even the hacking mini game, but most of all - the stealth!

  • I was very skeptical when I saw the videos and all the goo, boy was I wrong! The new additions felt like they were always there and the writing was spot on. It hooked me in about 30 seconds. Then I was skeptical about how it would work in coop with two sets of portals, yet again they proved me wrong with some of the best coop experience I've ever had.

  • Collect them all? Yeah, okay I'm interested already, but then the game was actually really good too. Even though I've already beaten this game, the lure of the figures pulls me anytime I'm in a store that sells them and I just 'swing by' to see what's in stock.

  • I am NOT a fan of GTA style games and I didn't like the first two Saint's Row games. But all the reviewers would not stfu about how good this game is so I gave it a shot and I wasn't disappointed. Many times I thought, "this is the craziest shit ever!", but by the end of it I had purchased everything and max leveled so continuing to do the challenges was not fun. But that was after I already dropped 30 hours in so I certainly feel like I got my money's worth and I bailed before the grind ruined my experience.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with Bastion, but it's very hard for arcade titles to get any love in my house. I need to revisit this and find exactly where in my list it belongs.

  • Surprise! Back when I was in high school my friends loved to play Warhammer 40k, but I was always a D&D guy and had no interest. But I heard some surprising good things about this game so I swung by the ol' Redbox and was NOT disappointed. I really loved the weight of my character, I felt like a huge hulking human tank. And I loved the mixing up of the melee vs shooting. I was sad to return it, but happy to recommend it to others and intend to put it back in my collection one day.

  • I never played the original, but I'm always looking for games we can play as a family or with my girlfriend. I love the sharp wit, but after a few games my significant other had her fill. Despite this, I still played alone just to enjoy the content and hear the witty jokes. Fun times!

  • I loved it on my iPhone, Droid, and Windows phone so was there really any chance I wasn't going to love it on Kinect?

  • Funny story, great art style and tight Kinect controls that I easily picked up and didn't have to really think about made this a blast to play.

  • I grabbed this for some easy points, plus I usually love kids games, and again I was pleasantly surprised. I like that the cut scenes were unskipable because I ending up actually watching them and the cut scenes were filled with charming characters just like the movie. Plus this game was REALLY generous with the checkpoints so even when you fell to some weird platforming you were almost immediately right back where you were.

  • As a family we watch this silly TV show and so over the summer on vacation we spent our nights running around and acting stupid after a day at the beach. Great memories make this game so much better than it objectively is.

  • As with most Kinect games, this one is about the family fun. I enjoyed the new games, but most of all I enjoyed watching my nephews fight over their football games and the entire family playing golf.
