It wasnt an easy choice with so many great games but Mass Effect with its fantastic story telling and interesting characters, not to mention its incredible lore is the game i feel deserves the number 1 spot.
This game kind of came out of no where for me, the guys at Giant Bomb had been talking about it for months but it never really hit my radar. It came out the same day i got paid and i saw the special edition for the same price as the regular so figured id give it a try, boy was a i glad i did! From start to finish this game kept me hooked and with the fantastic DLC Undead Nightmare it lives on, it really was a close call between RDR and Mass Effect 2 for my number 1.
When i first heard about this game i figured like most people that it was a side story focusing on multiplayer with a single player segement shoe horned in. Man was i wrong! Not only is this the greatest Assassins Creed to date, the multiplayer is unique and fun which is something in never expected.
Alan Wake is one of those games you wait to arrive forever and no sooner have you started it its over. Its a very short adventure but its a good one, filled with the kind of suspense and fantastic writing you normally expect to see in a hollywood movie! Some of the gameplay mechanics, namely the combat dosent work as well as it should, but the gripping narritive and the relateable characters kept this from dropping off my 2010 list even despite some rather forgettable DLC.
Harmonix have released what is the greatest music game of all time, allowing you to export all of your previous tracks and dlc, implimenting a real guitar and keyboard we finally have the ultimate experiance! Its really hard to fault this game in any way, not only can you learn how to play real instruments, you can earn gamer score and compete against your friends!
They might as well have called this Need for Speed:Burnout because this is for all intents and purposes both a sequel to burnout and need for speed. The online features are integral to the experiance and add an extra layer to an already fantastic racer. Think Chase HQ or Raytracers brought into the future!
I have to admit it, i didnt think Treyarch could pull it off but they have made a fantastic game that surpasses even the might Modern Warfare! With a great single player mode, a fantastic multiplayer including the ever popular Zombie mode we have the best fps this year. This is also the first commercial 3d games and it pulls it off pretty well! If you like shooting dudes in the face and dont mind some over the top hollywood action then this is the one to get!
Following the lofty expectations set by Fallout 3, New Vegas dosent so much surpass the previous game, but sits nicely along side it. With a gripping story, great characters and an amazing sound track you cant go wrong with Fallout New Vegas.
Big on cinematics and style, this game is very faithfull to the anime and manga it came from. The fighting sequences are well implimented and even a non fan could enjoy the vs mode. To be fair though this is the kind of game a fan of the series is really going to appreciate, if your a Naruto fan this is the game for you.
The fanboy in me couldnt help but let out a little yelp when i saw a new Transformers game on the horizon, not only that, it looked good! I was happy to find the game was all that i had expected the the appropriate amount of fan service and some great voice acting all round. The end sequence is possibly the best music in any game this year! ^_^
