In general opinions can't be right or wrong, but I would say that there are good opinions and bad opinions. Good ones are things like "I like it" and bad ones are mostly based off of ignorance and misinformation such as "I haven't played this game, but its probably shit". So in this instance, no you're opinion is not wrong. There's nothing wrong with liking a game most people don't.

I haven't played a whole lot of new stuff this year and some of the stuff on this list is gonna be stuff I haven't finished, but here it is: Best of 2016. I initially put it on this post, but it removed all my paragraph breaks and turned into a wall of text. If you want to see my comments on the games I chose, then go to the link. If not, then here is the TL;DR version:

1. Danganronpa 2: Goodby Despair

2. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

3. Overwatch

4. Dark Souls III

5. Final Fantasy XV

6. Steins;Gate 0

7. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

8. Pokemon Sun/Moon

9. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

10. Fire Emblem Fates

11. Stardew Valley

So I'm about 45 hours in (probably 35ish if you subtract the afk time) and while I've been enjoying the open world stuff up til now, I'm starting to feel like the game's story is completely unfinished. I still don't have any sense of what the conflict between Lucis and the Empire even is. I've been told that its in that movie, but I think that having to watch a movie is a shitty way to get the backstory of a game.

I'm not sure if this is considered spoilers, but its about what I think of the characters at this point of the story so I'll spoiler it anyways. I wish I had a bit more backstory on Noctis and his life before the game started, for example how did he even meet Gladiolus, Prompto and Ignis? We get some with Luna, but I feel like she's doing a bunch of important stuff concurrently with the game and we don't see any of it. I feel like Prompto has an interesting backstory that we aren't going to get to hear. The scene that gave me this idea wasn't even part of the main quest or a sidequest so I doubt it goes anywhere. I think Gladiolus and his sister are the only characters I feel like have been established enough for me to care a little bit about. But even then they don't have much going on yet. Ignis is a complete mystery to me still. The only things I know about him are he wears glasses and likes to cook. I have no idea who the villain is. I guess its the emperor that we saw in a cutscene for like 30 seconds? I just feel like I don't even care about these characters yet, which after 45 hours is a little disappointing. I mean after 45 hours of FF6-10 I cared about the characters (most of them anyways). Hell I even cared about a couple of the main bad guys in those games. Everyone loves it when you complain about a game by comparing it to others, but I can't help it in this case.

Overall I just feel like there used to be a lot more story to this game, but they cut a lot of it out. The sidequests have all the personality of an MMO questline so they don't make up for what feels like is missing. Maybe its all in the second half? I have heard something about the director wanting the first half to be like an open world game and the second half to be more like a traditional FF game.

On another note, (or maybe not since it could have alleviated the above issues a lot), there is not enough dialogue recorded for this game. There's like 10 voice lines total for each character when you're just running around/driving around/etc the world. You'll hear stuff like "Its hot", "then lose the jacket" a million times while playing this game. While you're in the car the characters almost never say anything interesting, which is a huge missed opportunity in my opinion. Games like the tales of series have super basic stories, but they often have pretty great characters. One way they accomplish that is by these skits that are basically small conversations among the characters about food, their hometowns, something they saw in the town, etc. They were always small things, but added so much personality to the characters by the end of the game. In FF15 they could have done something similar in the car. There's basically no conversations unless you just did a quest or are on the way to a quest is a missed opportunity to inject a lot of needed personality to the characters.

Gameplay-wise its fine. The game is pretty fun as long as you aren't just warp striking back and forth constantly and kinda reminds me of Dark Souls in a way. The best way to deal damage is the get around the back of the enemy and stab them. I wish magic was more than just grenades though.

Well that's my rant about FF15.

@rubberluffy: At first I was like this actually looks pretty good for 3D art, but then people started moving and they kinda look like robots. The animation is also super stuttery. Why did they do this?

Edit: So I finished that episode. I guess I'll finally just get around to reading the manga lol

@jesushammer Yeah it is at least set up well in Golden Time, but that didn't stop me from rolling my eyes lol. Maybe I should try and get rid of that reaction I have.

@dochaus Ah yeah the one I've heard about is Yotsuba as well. But I've never heard of Hiragana Battle so I'll definitely check that out. Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot to mention I'll also be taking a Japanese class in college next semester so I'll definitely be studying as well.

@edgaras1103 Yeah that's why I dislike them too. That's probably why I had that reaction in Golden Time even they do actually set it up better than most. But triangles are cool. The Pythagorean Theorem and all its variations are pretty useful.

I've started watching Golden Time recently and I started out absolutely loving it. Finally a romance where the characters don't dance around each other for 23 episodes before finally saying how they feel about each other. But now I'm about halfway through and am slightly annoyed because it introduced a love triangle, which is something I absolutely hate. I really hope its not going to keep going too deep down that rabbit hole. Obviously for 24 episodes it needs some conflict, but I was hoping it would be in the form of all the other stuff that happens in college life or maybe the rich girl's parents hate him or something other than a love triangle.

So I've been wondering. Do you guys like love triangles? Why do you like them? I'm not trying to dis on anyone's likes. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean I think everyone else should conform to my opinion. I'm just curious what other people see in them.

Also, for something completely different, I'm planning on starting to learn some Japanese so that I can some day read manga/novels/video games in Japanese since I've been missing out on some stuff I've wanted to check out. I know I could read the fan translations of manga online, but there's something about having a physical copy of the book in your hands that makes it hard for me to read from a computer screen. So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of manga or novels/LN's to check out while I'm learning. I was thinking that it would be helpful to try and translate myself while learning to enhance it. Its also nice to learn something by doing something you like.

I'm excited for more Konosuba. I'm sad that Kiznaiver is over. Definitely my favorite (new) anime I've watched in the past year or so.

By the way, @takashichea has made a pretty good guide summarizing the shows coming out next season if you want titles and links to trailers for the new stuff. The few anime blogs I visit haven't come out with their preview guides yet, so you'll have this one to tide you over.

Oh thanks. These stood out to me: 91 days, berserk, d.gray man (though I'm worried about the reception if they just jump in from where they left off; new viewers are gonna be like wtf), food wars season 2, 7 deadly sins season 2, endride sounds interesting, more Re:Zero. Most of these are just new seasons of existing stuff. I guess a picture and a few lines aren't enough to interest me on the others, but I will probably like at least a few of them.

Well Mayoiga was dumb, but I had fun watching it weekly and going to the episode discussion on reddit. The ending was pretty bad. After all the time it took for the like two people to overcome their nanaki that they showed, everyone else accepted their's pretty fucking fast. They probably ran out of money/time or something, but it just seemed like they were like "this is where all the other characters will overcome their nanaki, but you get the point.... roll credits!"

Kiznaiver continues to be one of my favorite anime I've seen since watching Attack on Titan and Steins;Gate a few years ago. I'm going to be a little sad when its over.

I guess Big Order ended with only 10 episodes. Seems odd. I think if I had to rate that show it would be like 3/10. I liked the idea, but the execution and writing was pretty much as bad as you can get. I can see a lot of character similarities with Mirai Nikki, but other than that I'm having a hard time believing the same person wrote both of these stories. At least Mirai Nikki had all the build up time it needed to make me actually care what was happening and getting from plot point A to plot point B made sense. Definitely the most disappointing anime in years for me since I liked Mirai Nikki a lot. I expected better. Maybe the manga is better? Mirai Nikki was like 12 volumes and Big Order is 9 so I get the feeling that they skipped a fucking lot of stuff since Mirai Nikki barely fit in 26 episodes and Big Order got 10.

Edit: My Hero Academia just gets better and better doesn't it? People who have read the manga are telling me something along the lines of "you ain't seen nothin yet" so I am super excited. That All Might vs Nomu fight ending with him punching Nomu into space was just fucking incredible. I don't think I've ever actually been on the edge of my seat during a fight scene in anime, but that was crazy. I will say one thing I don't like about this show though. They spend like 3 or 4 minutes of the runtime flashing back to things we saw last week. I don't know if they don't trust their viewers to remember or they wanna stretch it out for as long as possible, but it is a little annoying how long they spend doing flashbacks.

Kabaneri seemed good this week after the dip in quality last week. I feel like we missed an episode of build up for the bad guy, but its not the worst thing in the world.

I guess that wraps up my sunday anime rant.
