Old Raincoat Killer Theory (Spoilers)

(Re: spoilers, if you're up to date in the endurance run (specifically, today's VJ Endurance Run, there should be no problem.)

Deadly Premonition is one of those sorts of games I love to think about, as a lot is implied and people are generally unreliable so you have to look at things objectively rather than trusting everything you're told.

It's not particularly important, but I've been quite interested about the identity of the old Raincoat Killer.

So anyway! That's my theory. :D It might not stand up to scrutiny and/or sidequest information, I don't know, but for now I'm sticking to it.

Intresting thread. The ending wasen't clear, and I'm feeling a little more educated after listening to people's analysis.

"  1. Zombies throughout the game. Were they just ghosts that Zach/York can see from greenvale's past?
2. What would happen if you chose to shoot Kaysen instead of Emily? Investigation Failure?
2.5. Is there a way to keep Emily alive and have a different ending?
3. Was it the seeds that made Kaysen crazy? Or was he already some evil being or demon?
4. How exactly did Kaysen get George to become the New Raincoat Killer. I know Kaysen killed George's mom and Harry couldn't save her.
5. Who was the Old Raincoat Killer? Kaysen? Stewart?  "
1. I believe the zombies were supposed to be the victims of the gas and the Raincoat Killer.
2. He's invincible to the bullets.
2.5. As far as we know, no.
3. I'm guessing he was an evil plant/alien/demon that wanted to wreck shit.
4. Depending on whether it was before George got the seeds or after, though I would say that Kaysen would use his devilish persuasions.
5. Well, it's not Kaysen, as he was spreading the gas. So, as the thread discusses, the game claims it is Stewart Senior, but it could have been Harry all along.

Awesome endurance run. I enjoyed it. I never watched the P4 one though, should I? anyways I still have some things that need clarifiying. I've been watching the ER, I just extract the following details from it.

I don't know why people are really doubting Harry's story, there are no real holes that make it unable to be taken at basic face value. This is my theory of how the night 50 years ago played out. As a disclaimer I will say there is plenty this doesn't account for, and this is merely the conclusion I came to as more information was presented to the player.

it could be an old theory rather than a theory about an old raincoat killer

How come Harry specifically saw the millitary men wearing gas masks, but the raincoat killer didn't?
And why the hell is Kaysen in the army?
And why would the army sanction covering greenvale in purple haze?

@CaptainObvious: Yeah, I caught that reference too.

It would make sense, too, as it would seem to be a traumatic enough experience... Very interesting.

@Turambar: Hmm... that could be an interesting turn of events. Didn't think of it that way! I like that idea.

@AuthenticM: Well, the game does tell you pretty early on, right after the woodmill, about the legend of the raincoat killer.

@AuthenticM: Fair point, but I'm not sure what else I could call it without people stumbling in on a subject they don't want to come across. It's not something I particularly considered a spoiler, and I'm not sure what kind of alternative title might work.

I'm sorry, that's not the most helpful response to you. :/

I think in today's episode Kaysen mentioned something about Harry.

My theory is that Harry also has his other personality and just after he went berserk as the raincoat killer he switched places with his York.  That might be why Harry's story is full of holes. Remember the moment when York told Emily about the moment when his father shot his mother? I think the whole time the truth about that moment was locked from York by Zach. I bet it's the same way with Harry.

I haven't read anything in the thread as I'm on episode 20, but doesn't the title itself is a spoiler? "Old Raincoat killer" ?

@Khantael:  Note: there are some spoilers in this response not yet arrived at by the VJ endurance run

@sixghost: That makes sense, too.

I'm not sure it wpuld completely discount this, because I do find Harry's Raincoat Killer story to have quite a few holes in it, but I figure that in that case there's no motivation to be fully truthful with York. If he gets across the important stuff - military, existing Raincoat Killer, knowing who they were - the details are unimportant.

The "gibberish" line was just Harry telling York that he wouldn't testify to any of this, but he still wanted to York to have the information.
