I join in the Phil Spencer love. I think he's an asset to XBox and to gaming in general.
But I think both he and Jeff should have been stronger on the question of the $499 price tag.
I think Jeff should have come out with something like: "Why $499? I think you would have made a much stronger statement if you matched Sony and came out at $399."
...
He kind of answered it though. He said they set out to make a $499 box, not a $399 one. (talked about how PS4 pro came out for $399 but that wasn't the console they personally wanted to make) And while that might just sound like marketing BS, it does have the specs to back that assertion up.
As for why they didn't sell that box for $399, I'm sure that just falls under responsible business practice. Almost certainly they're selling at a loss at $499, $399 might just be irresponsible.
I don't get why yall are so sensitive about changes to the content. "But its not UPF!" it's a weekly friday show called UPF. Quick looks aren't quick either. If they wanna do somethin different for UPF every 4th week it's not the end of the world. I like a dynamic Giant Bomb. If this doesn't work, they'll change it up again. Thats why GB is good, they aren't overly attached to what they do now and are willing to change. This is also why drew quitting and Dan/Vinny moving to different studios won't kill GBW.
Point is, yall need to go with the flow more. Expecting GB to never change is just going to lead to disappointment.
@kherven: That was pretty much exactly the point I tried to make in the comments of Dan's Stardew Valley review and nobody agreed with me. It's a product, it should be judged on the quality of what's being sold.
I think the SDV dev deserves praise for creating such a great product all by himself. The key there is "creating a great product." SDV is good because its good, not because of the team size. Whether it was made by the 1 dev or by a small team, it was well worth its $15 price tag. So yeah, I don't think small/1 man team can be used as an excuse for a bad or overpriced product. Even when games like SDV pull it off, it doesn't make the product better but it does make it more impressive.
Haven't watched the QL yet, but from what I know of this game (which isn't much at this point) I really hope that the GBEast guys mention that this entire game is the work of one dude. One guy made it, so, cut it a bit of slack if it's super EARLY ACCESS etc :)
Nope! (S)He's charging money for it so (s)he gets no slack. If you're over at a friend's house and they're cooking dinner for you, you got no right to complain if it's not great. If you're at a restaurant and pay for your food and the food sucks, you have every right to complain. "Oh but we just opened and there is only 1 cook" doesn't matter, once you start charging money for your product, it better be good.
1 or 20 people, this game deserves the buyer beware it got because charging money for this "game" is dishonest. This isn't early access, this is a concept.
Serious question: does anyone here really care about this? I'm asking because I just don't have any interest in Mario Maker.
And I find Dan at his worst when he goes into his hyper competitive persona. Not a good look.
Just my opinion and I understand others may disagree, which is why I'm asking.
Tons of people cared. The final ryckoning stream had over 6,000 people watching on twitch. Patrick said many times that whenever he was taking on a GB level he had way more viewers than normal. You're probably in the GB minority for not being at all interested in it.
