@twistedmerc94: No I am not saying there should be no punishment for cutting the track and gaining an advantage. I am saying that there isn't a hard and fast rule that can be applied across all corner cutting especially when the result of a mistake. The Hamilton incident was on the borderline for me, could go either way, people would be angry if he wasn't penalized and if he was. Max's was a very easy call that should be made every time. The thing that bothers me is that one ruling isn't equal to or even related to the other ruling. The narrative that Max isn't getting away with anything while other drivers do as they please is silly, there have been discussions about if he should be allowed to do things like move in the breaking zone etc. but he has not been penalized for doing so yet.
@kid_gloves: Other than the 21 cars trying to outbreak him he wasnt being passed by anyone you mean?
So what do you do? Give him a time penalty? You cant tell him go to the back of the grid because people might have passed you. Should everyone always get a penalty when they cut a chicane no matter what? It is just that territory that there is no good answer for, usually the dirty tires is the penalty but it didn't seem to affect Hamilton... probably because Rosberg was in a fight.
Hamilton wasn't passed or being passed when he cut the chicane, yeah it benefited him but there wasn't anyone to give a position back to. Verstappen had been passed then took the position back by going off track. It is pretty clear cut.
Remember that the FIA is choosing to broadcast those messages to us. There have been "colorful" things said over the radio for years, I have to think FIA loves the narrative of Vettel complaining since they broadcast it every time.
Do Ferrari even have a strategist? I don't expect them to beat the Red Bulls or anything, but their strategy seems to be "fuck even having a shot at it".
Yeah Max has been pretty dangerous on those moves. I will however say that Hamilton's move there was absolutely silly as well, nothing came of it but to me he made a dangerous move... pulled out... then set about blaming Max. Either Hamilton pulls out of that move anyways, he misses the turn, or they make contact (if Max doesn't avoid). To some degree Max's move was secondary, he decided that instead of avoiding Lewis' move and losing the position he was going to put it on Hamilton and keep the position.... scary but understandable.
