" Nice find. But how the fuck does satellite imagery find "ancient camel tracks"? That kinda freaks me out, that we can do that now. "
My guess is because it is basically an ancient trade route, so camels were walking on that spot for hundreds of years, so when the route stopped the tracks were kind of hard printed, so they give a different heat signature then the rest of the ground around them since they are slightly lower down in the ground.   Also that is one of the reasons i love the uncharted series. I always feel more connected to the games because i have learned about a lot of the things in the game, although they are obviously exaggerated and a lot is made up, it still makes it much more interesting. Good find TC.   "
That explanation makes sense to me.

I'll be interested to see how a location like this, where the ruins have been found and look like, well, ruins, can be a goal for a journey without being disappointingly realistic. My bet is that the real treasure is information, not shiny things. Nate'll learn something about the world and about himself in an exotic location, just like every adventurer should.

Welcome!
Depends what you like, doesn't it? The PS3, like all the consoles, has a diverse lineup that fits pretty much any style, so let us know what genres you're into and we'll shoot you some suggestions.

" Torture is illegal and ineffectual, but it's been accepted in pop culture as long as it seems justified in the fucked up logic of the narrative. In reality, the ticking time bomb case never happens. In reality, 24 is bullshit. But, in reality, administrations that use torture and basically brag about it are not brought to justice and allowed to write memoirs about it instead, so I can't blame the public for being so open to its inclusion in war.  "
Holy shit, best answer. "
Suffice it to say I'm writing a philosophy thesis on torture right now, so it's kinda on my mind, as are my arguments. It gives me this weird feeling of informed elitism when I read some answers on here, but I guess my time is better spent writing the damn thing than refuting people here. Thanks for noticing!

Jimmy Fallon is not very good at moving and shooting. Glad he's repping games, but damn. Also, that gameplay revealed nothing, but I can't wait to see the game a year from now if it's already looking near Uncharted 2 quality. The bit with the shoe getting stuck was neat.

It's funny how all of you believe the official story by the government on the news being totally brainwashed like a sheep to their sheppard. It takes something like this to open your eyes that everything the government tells you is a lie. Yet you keep insisting that the official story is the only story, which can easily be manipulated and spinned.

"
Going to the other extreme, there, eh? Citizens should neither know every iota of intelligence nor should they be manipulated and lied to. Assange, no matter his personal life, recognizes this middle ground. He doesn't want his documents to endanger people and tries to make sure they do not. But, he also wants a "scientific journalism." The government is not evil or lying about everything and Assange is not a hero. They're both following their interests as best they can. Robert Gates is correct. The leaks aren't that big of a deal--they are embarrassing, but not dangerous. This isn't about taking down government; it's about exposing truth. We should be skeptical, not cynical.

" @Kierkegaard:  Yeah, but for the OP to say it's a success is also strong. It doesn't do anything meaningful for the user. If it makes money, fine, but I'm not getting why I should care. "
You shouldn't care about if it makes money. Check out the areas and the little games and see if you like 'em. Then judge. Simple.

" @Raven_Sword:  What in your mind makes Home any good though? We've seen the stats, and whether or not they are worth anything is up for debate, but what is it that you like about Home that makes it a success? It seems the general agreement here is that it's boring and pointless. If you like it, great, but why? As far as I can tell the only reason it exists is to sell virtual goods. "
Like is a strong word. I've had fun with parts of home. Some of the games like Buzz's quiz are fun. It's totally marketing, but it's kinda clever and interesting to see the little worlds and mini-games companies create. Everything exists to sell virtual goods nowadays. I think home does so in a relatively interesting and entertaining way.

" @Raven_Sword: Other examples of the kind of thing Hamz is pointing out is the continued disparity between the PSN stores in europe and the US: want to download and play some classic resident evil games? silent hill? Dino crisis? Well unless you live in Japan or the states you can't. That's after 4 freaking years of resident evil being available on the Japanese store!   You can also look at their really pretty lame strategy with the PSP Go, promising to have digital versions of new UMD releases go up day and date on the PSN store only to miss that mark and being very slow to improve the range of past UMD games available for download.  Personally I can see exactly what Hamz is saying, the things above are things I care (roughly) an infinite amount more than a 3D chat room with bells and whistles and yet Sony doesn't. Bummer. "
Cherry picking a corporation's missteps is kinda pointless. We can all do it with every console maker. Here's the thing. If the corporation funds exclusives you like and has an infrastructure you're cool with, then that's the corporation from which you will buy products. Mine is Sony. Whether their marketing dick is longer than Microsoft's or Nintendo's is irrelevant.

Sony did not put out certain games in certain territories because they dislike the consumer or want to fuck anyone over. They also did not mess up the digital distribution of the PSPgo to hurt you. They deeply care about putting out old games and making good portable systems, they just don't always succeed. Animosity toward them is silly, just as ignoring these faults is stupid. It's a corporate entity trying to make money. If they make you happy while doing so, yay!

" I've logged into home a few times. It's a neat little thing, undeserving of great praise or great hate.   Largely, yeah, it's a fucking marketing approach. Of course it is. Anything anyone has ever given to you for free is a piece of marketing. The only purpose of a free thing is to entice you to eventually buy something. Otherwise, it would have no functional purpose for the company.   This isn't immoral either. Companies are not tricking you; they are showing you something they hope you like so you buy other things you may also like. It's logical.   Home has some fun stuff in there. There's hundreds of game spaces, most with little mini-games. It's basically like a giant website where you walk around, play decent flash games, maybe chat, and leave. Some things like the Buzz Quizshow game are legitimately fun. Some aren't so inspired. But, it's not a bad way to kill some time.   Has it succeeded in changing the face of gaming or any other hyperbolic claims? Fuck no. No console has ever lived up to the expectations set at any press conference. But, it's not a bad time, and it makes Sony money, so what's there to worry about? "
Fuck it. I'm quoting myself. The above is the truth. Please stop arguing incoherently about whether home is Jesus or shit. Home is alright if you're into that sort of thing. Let's be okay with that.
