Yesterday I made a post about Killzone 2 and why no one bought the DLC.  I get it now. 
 
After getting to the higher ranks in multiplayer where people actually have access to the missile launcher, multiplayer becomes a complete fucking mess.  At the lower ranks the game is a shooter that relies on you actually being able to use your weapon to get kills, at the higher ranks all that's required of you is to pick the missile launcher, spam 3 missiles, die, and then repeat.  I don't think I've ever changed my opinion on a game so quickly but after about 4 hours of high rank play I'm officially finished with it. 
 
Fuck you Killzone 2.

I don't know if it's just me but it seems that many people have already forgotten how awesome Killzone 2 is.  I never got it until this past weekend so I'm not really sure how it was when the game launched but it seems that while it does have a pretty healthy online community, it's missing something important that both Call of Duty and Halo has.  The players' willingness to purchase additional maps to get more time out of the game. 
 
As soon as I picked up the game and played a few rounds online, I logged onto PSN and purchased the map pack bundle that was recently released with all 6 maps.  For the price I thought it was very worth it and I figured that many other people would feel the same.  I guess I'm in the minority.  Of all the games I've searched, I have found one game that actually had people playing the map pack and the title of the game was "Trophies & XP."  Yeah it was nice to knock off 2 bronze trophies I was going for but it still seems kind of useless to buy them if no one is actually playing them in some kind of steady rotation. 
 
Have any of you that bought Killzone 2 thrown down the money for the extra maps or have any interest in doing so in the future?  It seems that the best option for most companies is to release everything in one big bundle with a single player addition and perhaps a code for a beta test to really entice people into buying them.  Either that or a ton of people are starting to feel really burned by "Game of the Year" editions coming out 10 months later that include EVERYTHING that people had to buy over that time.  Yeah, I'm still a little bitter about the Gears 2 maps and how I had to pay about $45 for all of them when everything was included in the Game of the Year edition for $40.

Damn it has been a great weekend.  My girlfriend is out of town this weekend so it gave me some time to really put some time into some games I've been putting off for awhile.  More specifically, Metal Gear Solid which if you're counting I have been putting for for about 11 years now.  Yes, while I attempted to finish the original MGS many many times, I would get bored and move onto something else.  In other words, I'm an idiot. 
 
Last night I cracked open the Metal Gear Solid Essentials Collection and said to myself "Self, before we get into that brand new copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 you got with your PS3 Slim, we need to beat these games."  I'm very glad I did.  Metal Gear Solid is amazing!  While I had played parts of #2, I wasn't prepared for the story that was told in the original.  It actually reminded me of the same style employed by Batman Arkham Asylum in that it tells the story of the events of one night and when it's over you really feel as though you yourself has just been put through the ringer.  It really is a really awesome game. 
 
And with that it's onto Metal Gear Solid 2.  Many people really love it, many people really hate it.  If it's anything like the first (yeah I know about Raiden) in terms of story then I think I'll be pretty satisfied. 
 
OH!  I'm also looking to start filling up my PSN Friends List.  I don't have anyone on there and it kind of makes me sad.  Add me up, my PSN ID is KimFidler (I'm not very original).  I'm mostly playing Killzone 2 at the moment.

For the past 2 nights I sat down with Fracture and I have to admit the single player was actually alright.  Repetitive and dumb AI but the actual game and easy achievements were decent enough to make me want to finish it.  I think I managed to get about 700 points for a play through on the easiest setting (yeah I'm a puss) and it only took me about 6 hours in total.

The best part about playing Fracture was the online.  It doesn't exist.  I tried to find a game to knock off the really easy online achievements and there was not a single person playing it.  Not 1 person on planet Earth cares enough about Fracture to actually play it online and while that should make me angry, I think it's ridiculously funny. 

Overall it was worth the $10 I paid for it and if you have a couple of dollars/hours to waste on a mindless 3rd person shooter with easy achievements, you might want to pick it up.

For a brief second there I had forgot how hard the Shin Megami Tensei games were.  I have played through every single one of the titles that hit North American soil and every single time I forget just how frustrating they can all be at times.  Yesterday I started up a brand new game of Persona 4 and instantly fell in love with.  Tonight I have played for about 4 hours and right when I got to a point in the first dungeon where I was about to fight the boss - I died.  1 hour of work absolutely gone but I will admit that it could definitely be worse.  I once lost 3 hours in Persona 3 because being the idiot that I am I forgot to save.

Thankfully the frustration is actually worth it because the game is so damn good otherwise.  I wasn't sure if I'd be able to go back to a PS2 game and have a good time with it but Persona 4 is pretty much the best RPG I've played since... well... Persona 3.  If you enjoy sitting down with a grindy RPG every once in awhile you should check it out.  I'll keep you updated on my progress.  There's a girl in my class (in-game) that I am so going to try and hook up with.
