This is how they are attempting to compete with the sheer awesomeness that is Giant Bomb-

Gamespot Redesign

The new look is okay but seriously I cant go back to gamespot. They really lost their best reviews (jeff, ryan and dave), their site looks like a huge ad and I cant even listen to their podcast ....
Long live GiantBomb
and 1up, Cag & Destructoid
I'm done with Gamespot. I'm not suggesting the Gamespot staff are bad people they just don't appeal to me.
Some people like to talk smack about Gamespot and it's users but I really think we should move on and focus on what we can contribute here.
Doesn't phase me too much as I don't visit GameSpot much anymore out of preference.
But I must begrudgingly admit it's a very slick looking website and their design team definitely knows what they're doing. Especially compared to the eyestrain that is IGN. 1UP is getting better but both seem to have the tendency of throwing a lot of redundant looking blocks of text at the user.
dark backgrounds ftw.
Doesn't really look any different, same basic layout, same box positions, same content in each box Only thing that's different is the colour scheme and the box titles. Pathetic.
Gamespot can make the best looking site on the net, it's still not going to help the negative press they recieved from the whole farcicle, jeff incident, that caused this great site to even exist in the first plae.

*shifty eyes*
I still go to the forums and unions every day and share my blogs between GB and GS. Not sure if I like the new design, but I'll probably learn to like it.

Why concern yourself with GS? If you don't like the site don't visit it. FYI they've had those plans longer than GB launched.
As I've stated in the roughly 1,000 other threads like this, I don't spend much time over at Gamespot anymore, but I do like the new design. The current design is kind of bloated; the new design smoothes things out quite nicely.
I do like the new site, is a lot slicker, but I have to say Giantbomb is alot better, better podcast and i edit pages and stuff, which is always good...
"Wow.. Thats not a wow for the new design.. But i cant believe a new site like Gaint Bomb is already challenging Gamespot :).. Cool "
Ah. Not the case.
yeah people do need to stop mentioning gamespot period. its making giantbomb live in its shadow, which is not what it is supposed to do.
Meh. It's all right. I don't see myself going there any more than I already do, which isn't much.
This site feels like it fills a different niche. It's much more networking-focused and community content-driven, so when I'm looking for a place to share my blog, chat and so forth, this site offers that. For news, other sites (and I don't mean Gamespot, as I haven't gone there for news in years) seem like they're better. And for actual gameplay tips and so forth, I think Giantbomb has a little ways to go in figuring out how to properly integrate that stuff in a manner that doesn't bog down the articles. But it'll happen. This site is still in its infancy. I think it has a lot of potential, and I don't think it's focus is on being a direct competitor with Gamespot so much as filling a different role in a better way than GS (and many other big gaming news sites) can.
