i've been listening nonstop to d&b since 1998 & dubstep since 2006, both genres have a huge problem from around 2009 where tons of teenagers make garbage in their bedroom by sticking random noises in a track without any flow or harmony
unfortunately, that's pretty much all that everyone hears nowadays & think that represents the genre... but it's fake, just like junky 'dance' music in many trailers
& since i've dealt with production for a decade, these new lazy tracks sound even worse to me cuz i know all the corners they're cutting, pretty disgusting
http://www.reddit.com/r/dubstep/comments/h123z/so_you_wanna_hear_some_dubstep/ i approve of this list, it shows off various labels with all kinds of styles (only big thing missing is kromestar), so i'd recommend going through it if you have any interest in what's REALLY in the genre & notice how some labels are 'deep', others are 'filthy' (similar to let's say guitars, they can create death metal noises or be gentle acoustic folk sounds, both coming from a guitar the way dubstep is structured as usually halfstep drums around 140bpm)

I could have sworn that dubstep was dead circa 2005, but its shambling corpse has made quite the comeback as of late.
how? it didnt start to become a real name till 2005, before then it was just a mash of garage+grime with no common identity
