Out of the games you mentioned I would definitely recommend The Darkness. It's a great game and something you can finish in a shortish period of time. Stranglehold is also a decent rental(definitely not a buy). It's short and fun for the most part, but not a game you would ever want to play again.
...and if you only wanted to rent one game...I would say rent The Orange Box. You would likely be able to finish HL2 and both episodes, as well as Portal. All of which are great games.
I was a long time member of Gamespot, but left for obvious reasons. Ever since that little "incident" I've just been jumping from place to place. I spend the majority of my time at 1UP just because I love their staff, but I really hate the way their forums are set up. I've basically just been waiting for Giant Bomb to launch and now that it's here...I couldn't be happier.
There was a game called Sheep a long time ago for the PC(and I think the PS1 too). I remember it because my brother sent me a copy of the game as a joke, but I actually remember it being decent. I'm pretty sure that Flock isn't a remake because I don't remember space ships in the Sheep game, but I could be wrong.
...and if you want to play with some sheep right away; here is a little flash game, Sheepgame ...I'm not saying this flash game is any good :P
I started listening back when it all begun. When it was Arrow Point Down and I'll never forget all of the Gatorade talk! I am just extremely happy to see Giant Bomb finally launching the "real" site and I really hope these guys do well.
