Top 10 of 2013

Surprise! I played some video games this year! Here is my personal top 10 list for this year:

This list is in no particular order

Yes, I suck at writing. No, I don't care :)

List items

  • Having played previous Fire Emblem games, this was the first one to hook me. The combat is deep and extremely snappy. You don't feel like watching your enemies take their turn WELL FUCK THEM skip past all that shit so you can work on murderizing them.

Also, no I didn't play with permadeath on my characters. I know that is the way people suggest to play Fire Emblem but I did it for the sake of my DS. I was close to throwing it across the room a few times.

  • I came for the story and wasn't disappointed. I got to the end of the game around 4am glued to my seat....and then my MIND WAS BLOWN. Damn you, Ken Levine! You are so good at writing twist endings! If it wasn't for some bland combat and hidden audio logs with relevant story information, I would have held this game in higher regard.

Sidebar: Game developers...I NEEDZ MORE SKYHOOKS!

  • What an evil little game this is. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but playing this game with my roommate was one of the funniest video game related things I have done this year. As a co-op platformer with very little consequence to death (like accidentally bumping into your partner and making him drown then standing on his drowning body to make a jump), it was a total blast.

  • I think this game and AC 4:Black Flag are tied with me for most surprisingly good game. I had heard a lot of good things about Dragon's Dogma and when I saw that they re-released it with fixes plus extra content I decided to jump in. This game just feels like an unofficial Lord of the Rings game and I mean that it a completely positive way. The world just has this great dark tone to the world filled with Chimeras, Goblins, Dragons, and various other creatures. Then you beat the game and SHIT.GETS.REAL. While the story is nothing to write home about, the gameplay is fast-paced and action-packed enough to keep you/me interested for 50+ hrs. Damn it....now I want to go back and play more >_<

  • My first foray into the Shin Megami Tensei series. Although not a complete newbie (I've played Persona 4), the learning curve at the beginning is steep but once I got past that it was a pleasant surprise. I had no idea it was like a darker version of Pokemon.

Sidebar: So in this game, in order to convince monsters to join you, you need to give them stuff. The following is how the process usually goes:

"Give me money or I will kill you!"

    *Gives monster money*

    "Hey...you got any Beads?!*

    *Gives the monster Beads*

"I kinda like you, we should work together"

*Choose the dialog option for "Yeah we should!"*

    "Nevermind, I am going now"

    *Monster disappears*

    FUCK YOU MONSTER...FUCK....YOU!

  • Keith David. Super Powers. Dance Scene During The Credits. A Robot Can Sex You Up.

    *drop mic*

  • This game isn't going to do much for you if you aren't a fan of One Piece BUT if you are, well...you are in for a treat. Playing as your favorite OP characters and completely wrecking hundreds of enemies in a single attack is bliss. Sometimes you gotta have mindless fun and I couldn't think of a better game to just pop in and play.

    Sidebar: Kuzan is my favorite.

  • You did it Nintendo. You could've gotta a lot of shit for fucking up a sequel to A Link To The Past but you totally did it. Hands down one of best OSTs of the year. Maybe this game is playing on too much on nostalgia but if that's wrong then I don't wanna be right.

  • Holy crap this game is a ton of fun! After AC3 last year, I was ready to be severely disappointed. Sailing around the seas pirating and having my crew sing sea shanties...one of my top gaming experiences of all time. Just the experience of jumping off my ship and swimming to an island feels so next gen to me. If it wasn't for a stupid ass bug in the game, I would try and 100% all of the collectables (which I never feel like doing.)
