according to 'Design Chat: 11/15/12' there should be new video player with antialiasing option re-added. videos should be "seekable" again in flash player. there should also be bookmark feature for all videos which will be tied to your premium account. so if you close video on PC and start the same video on tablet, it will resume where you left off on PC. same feature might be added to podcast. i really(really really) hope that it will work out this time :(

right now, on flash(ffox) player its impossible to watch 720p video and seek. AUTO option puts video to very low quality(very old bug). youtubeHD is worse than 720p and HTML5 h264 doesnt work in forefox(even with HTML5 h264 addon - bug was already reported). i even tried setting up chrome just to watch GB.com videos, but html5 player is crashing my chrome all the time. only place where i can watch videos without problem is my tablet with chrome browser and HTML5 player.

im sure that there will be some staff/tech feedback after the new site is launched.

hello,

i recently tried updating my ffox from crazy old version to the newest one(v12.0 on win7) in hopes of h264 support for HTML5 vids. Because at the moment its impossible to watch 720p video and skip forward(if im not mistaken AUTO option is still broken and youtube is not the best quality).

It seems that full h264 support is still in the works, but there seems to be plugin which allows firefox to play HTML5 h264 videos - HTML5 Extension for Windows Media Player Firefox

http://www.webmonkey.com/2010/12/microsoft-adds-h-264-video-support-to-firefox/

Unfortunately gb.com videos cannot be played even with this plugin(video format or MME type is not supported error). To test this further, i have found this webpage - http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html

I tried to disable the new plugin and the h264 video(first one) didnt play. With the plugin enabled, video works in my ffox.

I really hope that there will be new(working) player with the new site(with AA). I guess we will find out soon enough :)

i have 100mbit and when i select GO-> auto i can skip in video. BUT auto is very low quality.
it seems that im stuck with chrome and HTML5 player. which (thank god) is a bit better now.

i really think that GB.com should be more careful about this player problems. first player was way better(fullscreen AA). now its even worse. i really hope that the new player will make the difference. i feel like 80% of GB content is video and paired with such shitty player, not the best user experience :/

watching this video in HTML5 chrome develops bad sync issue in 34th minute. when i reload the video and skip to 35th minute its OK for few seconds then goes out of sync again.  :(

@alexisg: thanks for the info on the AA. i hope it will be re-implemented soon.

there is one more bug, which was firstly reported Sept. 30, 2011(maybe even sooner) and then again Jan. 30, 2012. i was hoping that this problem will be fixed with new player. but i just had the same problem yesterday with the new flash player.

Video resets after being paused

more info on this problem: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/bug-reporting/33/video-resets-after-being-paused/534068/#10

@alexisg: i really appreciate you reaching out to us like this and giving us updates. i think that in cases like this, its very important.
i just checked videos in firefox and i can see really huge progress. only major problem is the lack of antialiasing in fullscreen. is this being handled as bug and should be fixed? i checked some random videos on gamespot and i think that i see the same problem. also tried in chrome with same outcome.
for last few days i was using HTML5 video player. weird is that you cannot get total fullscreen, even with F11 i can still see the time bar - impossible to hide it in fullscreen? plus  yesterday my buffer kept running out and i was getting slow-downs and pauses and silent parts etc. my download speed is 100mbit, no shaping/FUP and i download ~11MBs.

@X19 why do you care who owns them? i like this site and i love the video content and podcast. im using adblock and i know how to watch all premium videos(also nonlive premium stuff) and im still paying. they deserve it no matter who owns them.

youtube option was added to the streaming options (streaming/progressive/html5/youtube). unfortunately fullscreen of youtube in firefox is not good(pixelated picture).  html5 is working correctly - but not in ffox.

as an subscriber, i would like to have old player alternative until all problems with new player are fixed(if ever?). i see no obvious reason for taking buggy and shitty player from gamespot(does it add ads to the video for free users?). this site is mostly about video content(premium videos does not even have youtube stream). right now, i cannot watch any GB video in firefox, which is my default browser. crashes + all the bugs. sad :/

@alexisg: old player was not perfect. but would it be so hard for you to let it as option while you implement(and fix) this new player? to me it looks totaly broken. while testing it, nobody cared to open random video on fullscreen in forefox or seek in video?
additionaly, for me, this new player keeps crashing my flash(~2x in each QL). tried to reinstall etc. i watched days worth of video here on GB(old player) and im streaming hours of videos via own3d etc and my flash doesnt crash at all.

i have installed chrome as dedicated GB.com player(not ideal..). only problem i was able to find there is that if i fullscreen the video and press F11 to fullscreen browser, the bottom bar(with time/sound) will not hide. is there some way around? when watching video in window mode it autohides when i move my cursor away. but its impossible to move away cursor from fullscreen video.

by default im using firefox. but i have downloaded chrome just as GB.com HTML5 player. quality of the video is a lot better, no crashes and seek works.  fullscreen is weird, u need to press F11 in the browser after clicking fullscreen button. but it works.
i just hope that they will not "upgrade" html5 player.
