I love podcasts. They are my favorite form of media for absorbing news and information. Having the earphones pump these voices directly into my brain is an intimate experience that just isn't as deep when watching a video screen. There are no distractions. I listen while I run. Just breath, foot cadence, and a room full of "friends" discussing things as if I were there. I've even caught myself jumping into the conversation. That's how surreal it is.
There is nothing like that first time you look up the name "Ryan Davis" to see what he actually looks like versus the image your mind has stitched together after numerous calculations based on the baritone of his voice. For the first time ever, his picture was almost identical to the one in my mind. How could he not look the way he did? He was both enthusiastically happy and expressively concerned at the same time. I've never met anyone who could convey that with their expressions and inflections. Most importantly, he knew when silence was appropriate. My favorite episodes were always the E3 after hours, where the setup was intentionally recorded before the show "started" and passed along to us. That was where you got a glimpse behind the curtain, and that is where you could here his professionalism, not his character he often portrayed, shown through.
Like everyone else here, I felt a loss upon hearing the news. He was a great friend who never knew I existed. All of the crew is. As I said before, Ryan had impeccable timing to know when to be silent for dramatic effect. If you believe that, you must be thinking he was on to something...
RIP, Ryan, and let us in on the joke when we meet up with you.
