Best of 2007

For me, 2007 was the best year in gaming. I have many fond memories of being genuinely excited to play the new games being released. While I still enjoy games, this was the last time I really anticipated new games. Also, there were many nights spent playing the great multiplayer titles with close friends and being able to talk about it with one another the next day. While we still play together from time to time, we are now in different places and do not have as much time to play. I guess this marks a more personal year in games for me.

List items

  • Half-Life 2 is still one of the best games I have ever played. While it might be hard for those who did not play HL2 in 2004 to understand what made it so ground breaking it can still be appreciated for its intriguing story full of mystery and emotion as well its solid gameplay.

Team Fortress 2 is a solid multi-player experience. With TF2's wide range of maps and gametypes just about anyone who likes good competitive shooters will appreciate this game. It is also amazing that Team Fortress 2 can have nine classes and stay balanced; also, when played right, every class feels as though it has its own place and unique functions.

  • This is one of those games I wish could be played for the first time every time you play it.

  • The best Halo game in the series. The single player capitalized on wide open vistas that made Halo: CE's single player great. Halo 3 still has one of the richest multiplayer experiences around. The game can be played by just about anyone and can be played so many different ways that it feels like a new experience each time. There is room for the competitive as well as the casual with the wide range of maps and gamestypes. Saving films of yours and your friend's gameplay is a feature I now wish every game had.

  • One thing I liked about The Witcher was that it gave the player hard choices. This game did not always have a clear cut right or wrong answer. Sometimes the player just had to choose the lesser of two evils, other times it was hard to foresee the outcomes of your choices. While that may sound frustrating to some, it was a refreshing for myself.

  • Uncharted doesn't do anything truly innovative, but it has solid gameplay all the way through. Also, some of the best voice acting I have ever heard in a video game.

  • Loved the multiplayer in this game.

  • Turtle, turtle.
