I want a damn reward for finishing your game!

Lookie, it's NPC Kyle!

Okay, so I just now finished a playthrough of Star Wars: Jedi Knight- Jedi Academy on the hardest difficulty (Which was kind of a bitch since Raven's idea of increasing difficulty is slicing your health and shield in half and doubling the health of all enemies). I was writing up the wiki page (still in progress) which inspired me to head back in and play through the campaign, which is nice and short.

Now I had a pretty good time playing through the campaign, which I managed to fight through in about a week, trying to (mostly) avoid being cheap and just throwing all my enemies into those ubiquitous bottomless pits. Wasting a stormtrooper with Force Lightning is always freakin sweet (One of the reasons I'm pretty sure Force Unleashed can't go wrong in my opinion), so I wasn't really all that disappointed in my time with the game. I've beaten the campaign multiple times before, but it's been maybe a year and a half since I popped JA into my disc drive.

Now I'll say the campaign was great, and the final boss was dang tough. But as soon as the final credits rolled, all I was faced with was the menu screen. Same screen as when I put the disc in for the first time. No new mode, no art, not even a little emblem to show me I had finished the game. All I had was my save from the middle of the final boss fight. I have nothing to show for this. Now, as you'll know if you read the previous two paragraphs, I certainly enjoyed the game and derived quite a bit of fun from it. A game for game's sake is not inherently bad.

But if I'm going to invest the time to finish your game, and on the highest difficulty no less, I kinda want a little ackmowledgement. ou know, Halo does it with the little sheilds showing you the highest difficulty you beat a level on, Metroid shows you Samus out of the suit, some games give you art, new modes, other cool shit. Perhaps in a way, acheivements have taken the place of those small rewards in modern games, which is maybe why everybody loves them. It's nice to see a bit of recognition.

The online is fun enough, it's just not what I want

I love Jedi Academy, but just popping back to that main menu made me lose any enthusiasm I had for playing more of it. The ony opportunity I had to play more Jedi Academy was to hop online, which really isn't the same as the single-player anyways. Besides, it is very rare to see a server running the only gametype i like to play online, Siege, anyways. I like the online component a decent amount, but I would rather recieve some sort of award for finishing the single-player, even if it's small. Let me start a New Game Plus even, if that's the best you can do. But no, I don't even get that. You have to start a new career, which is BS.

I dunno if I summed up my thoughts properly, but whenever I get bumped back to the main menu following the credits, it makes me a bit sad. Usually I end a game wanting more of it, and when that happens it's as if the game is saying: "Sorry bud, that's all there is. Fuck you for wanting anything beyond a barebones career." Eh. I just kinda wish more games did give you rewards for finishing them. Acheivements satisfy this to an extent, but in game rewards are always the best in my opinion. These extend the repla vaue, and reward loyal fans with things other might not see. As a huge fan of Jedi Academy, the best I can say is I beat the game on Jedi Master difficulty, which was exactly the same experience someone who played through on Padawan would get, except they probably had more fun because they didn't die as much.

Anyways, I could go on, but that's enough on that. I'll probably still play through a bit more of JA this weekend, maybe try and find a siege game online (doubtful). Hopefully I'll finish that wiki page in a day or two and you guys can read all about the odd games I like way too much. Anyways, feel free to post your thoughts in the comments section, I'd love to hear them.

P.S. I heard recently that Gatorade is like significantly worse for our teeth than soda O_OIf that's tru them I'm fuuuucked. I have been downing like 2 or 3 gatorades a day for the past few weeks (crazy heat). Guess I should probably cut back huh? Anyways, I'm gonna go work on that Jedi Academy page some more.

If Jedi Academy isn't enough for you, try to download Knights of the Force mod (no, I'm not promoting piracy, it's a MOD, an unofficial addon). Try to convince some of your firends to play it with and enjoy the great multiplayer in that expansion. It's really cool, even though I'm playing it as "casual" with just two friends. There are many great modes, and you can even get involved in scenes from Star Wars movies (both from Original and New Trilogy), so it's worth downloading.

I love how in the cutscene his fingers actually go through the camera in the scene with Kyle in the first screenshot.

Back in my day, our reward for beating level 1 was being allowed to play level 2.  Our reward for beating the whole game on the hardest setting was a mere "thanks for playing", and we loved it.  Kids these days.

As for Gatorade, I think it's pretty much entirely salt, so it makes sense that it's not very good for your teeth.

I've played this a few times, but never finished. I've only played it though, over this last year or so. I really like the game, but like I said, haven't finished. I understand when you say you want a New Game Plus or something though, I think of that sometimes when I play certain games.

The online for this game used to be a lot better, is what my friend told me, who got me into the game. Recently we went on, and there weren't many decent servers. Most have been messed with a lot...

Reading this does sort of make me want to play now though....

I too have played through JA multiple times and wish there was something more at the end.  You get treated to some classic John Williams music and then, all of a sudden, it pops back to the menu screen.  No real reward, unless you picked the dark side and killed Rosh.
