Bayonetta - Any Buyers?

Linkyshinks Bayonetta Review

I'm currently in the process of chasing up my "Pure Platinum" medals, it's worth it just to hear Cereza tell mummy she's the best.

I cannot wait till next week!, I've waited ages for this Kamiya masterpiece. Who's with me, who's picking up this awesome game on launch night?, at what's being dubbed "the witching hour". Alternatively, who's taking a wait and see approach? If you are doing the latter, what exactly are you waiting for?.

Anyway, here's the new Bayonetta TV advert, It's short, but very sweet. I like the use of La Roux's- "In for the Kill"

Bayonetta TV Advert

You guys in the US get the game on Tuesday (5th), those of us in Europe have to wait till Friday (8th).We in Europe get awesome pre-order gifts in the form of replica weaponry and the Climax Edition.

Why Bayonetta?

I'm in love with everything about this game, even it's OTT style has managed to grow on me in a big way, but more so than what's seen on the surface, I love what this game has at it's very core - it's awesome combat system. It's the product of extreme labour on the part of  PlatinumGames (ex  Clover Studios). They spent an obsessive amount of time working on the games combat system alone, before anything else of consequence was even designed. (-that's how it should be done always imo)  It's extremely well devised and takes the genre to the next level, which was always the games design goal from the very start. What I like about the combat is the way it can force you to attack, block and evade in an almost rhythmic fashion. If you watch a noob play and it can seem like just another slasher, but watching an expert play can be wow worthy enough for you to drop your jaw in amazement.

As you may already be well aware, Bayonetta's gameplay is full to the brim with what looks likes utter chaos, but it's ordered chaos, put into order because the combat system is so solid. I don't think you can have such chaos in any such videogame unless all cylinders are firing as far as the combat system. It would be too bewildering to the player otherwise. Everything has been implemented with skill, even old part and parcel features like bullet time have been given new life with this game. Kamiya-san was unhappy with where Capcom had taken the DMC franchise in his absence, his baby (- he made the first game, only, I should add). the development of this game has essentially been an outlet for him to cast off the past and innovate to bring the action genre back to where he thinks it belongs.

The term hack and slash would be an offensive term to apply to this game given the games depth in combat, it's far from hack and slash, which suggests mind numbing combat that allows few options to the player. The combat here goes way beyond that of Ninja Gaiden and God of War's. If think the games distinct style may well put off a few people, but I personally love it because I know exactly what games have influenced it. The style has really grown on me, I now see that it aids the quirky camp comedy found in the game. It's very akin to the madness found in the great God Hand.

For me,  Bayonetta is one of only a few videogames that seems to embrace the fact it's a videogame, it's celebrates the fact unashamedly in almost hedonistic fashion with beautiful chaos and fantastic gameplay.

To any doubters, I suggest you keep an open mind.

I'm getting two Scarborough Fair replica guns with my copy, as seen below. My girlfriend Jenni really wants one ^^, but I've told her she can't. I  just can't do it..I need to have two for collection purposes, well that's my excuse anyway.  I am making it up to her though, I've asked some Chinese dude in London's Chinatown to make me a Bayonetta voodoo doll, using the image below. I'm picking that up on Friday also, I think it'll keep her quiet, I hope it does... Of course, I don't mind her using them as kinky props in future ^^

Fuck Yes.... Bayonetta has undoubtedly the most in depth and unique combat system of any action game ever. Nobody even comes close to Kamiya.

Yea at first I thought they were both pretty stupid compared to God of War. Now that Ive played both I can see that Bayonetta is okay, I couldn't really tell what was going on, but Dante's Inferno is just amazing.

I preordered this game a while ago and it will be shipped out to my address today. Most European stores have, just today, changed their stock indicators for this game from "preorder" to "available" or something to that extent.

I want to but, I'll probably wait.  (A) Right now I have only one game I am "day-one" focused on, and that's Mass Effect 2.  (B) I have a ton of games I am behind on and don't need any more before I give those others a reasonable amount of play.  Bayonetta does look really sweet though and I would love a fast DMC-like game that isn't DMC or Ninja Gaiden.  Try as I might, I wasn't captivated by DMC4 and Ninja Gaiden 1 was just too hard for me (yeah, I suck I know).  So, if Bayonetta is more engaging than DMC4 and easier than Ninja Gaiden, I will eventually pick it up.  I haven't played the demo yet.  Is it out on PSN US or do I still need to get a Japanese account?

The game would probably make a great rental, but for those buying, you'll get a really good amount of re-playability with this game. Kamiya designed the game with it in mind, after being well aware about such criticisms levelled at games in the genre prior.

Haha, sorry.

Dante actually looks and plays like a good game, but it's wearing down a very well worn track, and it's developers have little to no experience in the genre. I much prefer something fresh and wild as seen in abundance with this game, from a truly great games designer, who does have ample experience in the genre.

I think God of War 3 will make Dante seem even more tired when it comes out a few weeks later.

I think I'll call up my local store and check. If the computers say it's available, then a store are allowed to sell it - head office saying it's OK. It  usuallyhappens when a major retailer breaks the line. Maybe it's happened in the UK, but I doubt it.  I do know it has happened in the US.

I only have a PS3, and I've been hearing about lots of issues involved with the PS3 version.

It looks really good, but I think I'm going to hold off on buying it. Perhaps I'll get it when some of the problems are cleared up or a patch get's pushed out.

It's sad that PS3 owners feel inclined to shun this, but I do understand why perfectly. If I owned a PS3 only I'd be pretty pissed off about this, even while knowing there's little that can be done. If and when you get  360's, you should definitely get around to playing this awesome game.

I sincerely hope a patch does happen down the line, PS3 users deserve to play this game as intended. I think Sega should take on the development costs of any future patch, seeing as though they're largely responsible.  PlatinumGames should definitely send some on their technical team to consult on such a project.

Wow, just a tad excited huh mate? I want it, but I don't think I'll get it on the release day, not really because I'm taking a wait and see approach, just because there's a bunch of other games I really ought to finish first. I'm into it's crazy style and stuff like Devil May Cry though so I fully expect to enjoy it.

Already have mine pre-ordered and fully paid for. Just waiting for GameStop to call me up so I can get it. Though it is disappointing that GameStop won't break street date as many stores in the states have already been selling the game.

I played the demo the other night and determined it wasn't really my cup of tea.  Not my $60 cup of tea, anyways.  I may pick it up later in the year when it has a cheaper price tag.  I prefer the slightly-more-transparently structured and more mashy Dante's Inferno.

I suggest you give it another go, I would recommend anyone going into the training mode and practising all the combos available, including the bullet time one, and then taking those moves into open gameplay of the demo and attempting to chain them as I did. The game really impresses when your able to see just how one move can seamlessly link into another, it's almost like a veil drops.  Unfortunately the demo is piss easy, but it does give a good opportunity to see just what awesome combos can be achieved with practise.

I played the demo and was pretty impressed. I'll likely pick it up, but I might wait a week first, just to make sure it didn't suffer from DMC4 syndrome (game that seemed cool in the demo, ended up just being meh in full release).

Yea I got it preordered now.  Not sure how much I'll like it overall, but I've notice the demo is fun to reply to go for better metals, so I hope at least that carries over to the full game for me.  Also After Burner and Planet Harrier remixes!

Agreed. Game looks pretty nice, but my $60 money is tied up for BioShock 2, FF13 and God of War 3. I really need to quit spending like this...sheesh.

It's primarily the games core, it's combat system which is the product of extreme labour on the part of PlatinumGames (ex Clover Studios). They spent an obsessive amount of time working on the games combat system alone, before anything else was designed. (-that's how it should be done always imo) It's very well devised and takes the genre to the next level, which was always the games goal.  As you may already be well aware, Bayonetta's gameplay is full to the brim with what looks likes utter chaos, but it's ordered chaos, ordered because the foundation of the combat is so solid. You cannot have such chaos in any such videogame unless all cylinders are firing as far as the combat system.

Kamiya has been unhappy with where Capcom have taken the DMC franchise in his absence, his baby (- he made the first game, only I should add). this game essentially has been a outlet for him to cast off the past and innovate to bring the action genre back where it belongs. The term hack and slash would be an offensive term to apply to this game given the games depth in combat, it's far from hack and slash, which suggests mind numbing combat that allows few options to the player. The combat here goes way beyond that of Ninja Gaiden and God of War's.

If think the games distinct style may put off a few people, but I personally love it because I know exactly where it derives from and I appreciate it. It has really grown on me, I see that it's very much an essential part of the comedy found in this game.

Bayonetta is one of only a few videogames that seems to embrace the fact it's a videogames, it's celebrates the fact with beautiful chaos and great gameplay. Have you ever played God Hand?, I ask because that games garish OTT style has in part influenced this game.      ... "
Lol I think you just convinced me to buy the damn gamn.

Not yet, since I have about 9 on-deck games for this gen alone. I'm not even counting other games, like Shining Force III and Legend of Dragoon.

I'm really surprised by the amount of attention this game is getting. When I saw the quicklook it doesn't seem any different or great from other games in the same genre.

Hopefully GB will do a review of it.

I'm only going to be picking up one DMC/God of War clone this 2010, and that's either Darksiders or Dante's Inferno.

Picking it up day one. It's my most anticipated game.

They aren't releasing any special edition here in Sweden though, which is a damn shame. I'd love to own one of those smexy gun replicas.

It's kind of weird... I liked this stuff when It was Devil May Cry. Bayonetta's appeal just seems like a liiitle too much. I'm on the fence about it mind you, but there's this part of me thinking I could really do without it.

" Yea I got it preordered now.  Not sure how much I'll like it overall, but I've notice the demo is fun to reply to go for better metals, so I hope at least that carries over to the full game for me.  Also After Burner and Planet Harrier remixes! "

After playing both Dante's Inferno's and Bayonetta's demos, I have come to the conclusion that Dante's Inferno is much better. But that's just me.
