Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, I pretty much avoid reading the comments or forums anymore. If I remember correctly, the new site design is going to have some kind of downvoting system for posts like YouTube? We'll see how that pans out.

Just ignore the comments and enjoy the videos. Complaining about people complaining is a waste of time.

Exactly. Granted it's their web site and they can behave in any damn way they please, but I do wish some maturity from them when it comes to certain issues. It was fine when this web site was still new and the community was small so people kinda understood and dug their "quirky" behavior but as the site grows they also need to do some changes and maybe look how they behave. I used to watch every video contant they posted but in the last two year I stooped watching almost all of their video content and just kinda browse the forums and read the articles.

People are spoiled as shit, they can't appreciate what they have and just hoard them games as if they're status symbols.

and quick look EX's do kinda suck. i get why they exist to build goodwill with the developers and shit, but they arent super interesting to watch, feels like someones trying to sell me something, they always feel really staged and fake too.

I do very much sympathize TC. I look at those comments (can't help myself) and just wonder what kind of people have that much anger in their lives that they'll lash out against the people who run the site that they love, right to their faces sometimes. Giving constructive criticism and being a dick are two extremely different things.

That is, as they say, the internet though. I've started to make a point of taking the time to post in nearly every video I watch, just to say something constructive or positive (if it's deserved); simple, small steps to help drown out the negativity and make the internet a better place for everyone.

Case in point: go read the troll article Patrick's linking to in the latest Worth Reading. Trolls will be trolls, haters gonna hate, the world keeps spinning, news at 11.

Unfortunately, people like to complain and there is absolutely no drawback for complaining on the internet. In real life, socially competent people learn what to say and what not to say, in given situations. We watch what we say and who we say it to because we know that there are social rules and etiquette.

That doesn't exist on the internet. A lot of people feel as if they are free to vent and say whatever they want because there is no drawback, no punishment, no downside to saying whatever it is they want to say. Realize that while there are naturally polite and nice people in society, most of us only ACT polite because we fear the consequences if we don't. It's a sad thing to realize, but it is the truth.

Just don't read the comments if they get to you. I've largely stopped reading the comments. And at the end of the day, they're just jerky comments by jerks. You can just ignore them.

As for the site content, I like most of it, dislike a bit of it, but that's the same with every website.

i agree with most of what the op said. Except for the thing about games that they have no interest in. I would like them to cover it seriously try to get someone who is as close to "cares" as possible. For those of you who cant read my mind, for the most part, i dont care about the games they arent interested in, if its a game im interested in, the info they are giving me is enough to get me thru. There is a specific game that the video really made feel super sad about because it was something i really cared about, metal gear solid collection, specifically peacewalker. That quicklook was sooo painful and it was apparent they really didnt care, to the point where it hurt. Now this is metal gear solid. you are telling me that there was no one in the whiskey media offices to jump in? I mean look who they pulled in for the magic the gathering quicklook. Now some will argue that this is a HDification, and i know how the games should play (except for peacewalker). Well, not everyone has played this game and could have been checking it out for the first time. BUT I DIGRESS.

As for Patrick. I like him, he brings about a certain type of conversation, ie he always talks about games like an art form, like we are all standing in a museum looking at pieces. And the problem comes up bc people are used to crazy comedy peppered thru quicklooks, and Patrick murders it hard. Now its not a bad thing, but there is a void when Patrick is in the quicklook instead of someone else. He keeps it intellectual. And he does get in there with jokes but its not the same as Jeff/Vinny/Ryan. I mean go listen to the the bombcast that had Vinny, Ryan and Jeff, that podcast is probably one of the funniest i have heard in a very long time. Patrick is fine, he is an ok person ( i dont know him personally) but i can see where some people just generate dislike towards him.

Btw, Brad is also good but in my opinion he is at his best when he is on the tested podcast, my god the difference between that Brad and the Brad we are accustomed too is night and day.

Yes, Yes I did. I have been feeling bad. I did not think it would effect my writing that bad. I honestly can't believe I didn't at least do losing once. I did catch a number of other things like "Iesn't" after the fact & just let it go because I expected crickets to this post. Little did I know... Oh well, Can't win for losing!

@Paul_Is_Drunk: The thing is I maybe the oldest person involved in this conversation. Not too sure as I don't know every ones age of course. I have been on the internet since the amiga days, Ran a BBS in the C=64 days, And paid way too much for a 300 baud modem just to host said BBS. I've been here a long time. Half of what I wrote was as reactionary as the comments I am talking about. As a half ass'd way to point out it's all kind of stupid. I have had nothing, But a good time with all of the giant bomb community I've interacted with. This is more or less me wondering out loud where all the hate is coming from.

I also wrote this in haste In the middle of the night while fighting a number of health factors that made my mind not exactly focus on the task at hand. I am not the strongest writer in the first place, So there are parts of this that went to complete shit.... With that said, I did have it in mind that much like the people that post the hateful comments I would not re-read it and just fire it off as is. Being that I have never got more than 10 or so comments to anything I've done on here, I didn't think anyone would even care or notice.

Yup I think so too , a lot of people on the community are heavely influenced by the staff personalities , from Jeff "Ughs" and overall jadedness to appreciate stupid things "ironically" the tone of the community reflects that of the staff both positvely and negatively.
