Current Year Shopping List

Games released this calendar year that have my interest piqued. Odds of playing them all? 19% or so.

List items

  • In my sophomore year computer tech class this kid that sat next to me had a wallpaper which featured the original Alice. That is the extent of my history with this franchise.

  • Doing more interesting things with the first-person shooter perspective than anyone has in some time. And sometimes bro you just gotta bro out right bro? You know, once every ten years.

  • Because Kinect.

  • Being a huge horror-ninny, I have no idea why this game is on this list. But something about Dead Space has me by the short hairs. Of course I'd probably play the first game first... first.

  • Really dig the ideas in this game and the sense of humor seems right up my proverbial alley. Good reasons to dust off my DS.

  • Does anyone remember Rocket: Robot on Wheels? It was a 3D Platform-ery game Sucker Punch put out on the N64. I really, really liked it- and with no good reason. I feel a certain developer affinity for Sucker Punch as a result, and will give almost anything they put out a try. Need to pick up the first one first though...

  • Not sure if this game in unique in a progressive way or just unique for the sake of uniqueuiety. Either way I believe I am required to play it as part of the "Potentially Artsy" clause of my Snobby Game Player contract.

  • Yeah, okay. Sure.

  • The last fighting game I played with any regularity was Soul Calibur II (judge me not). This and Street Fighter IV have made me genuinely want to play fighting games again.

  • When I was a kid Mortal Kombat was not a thing that was allowed. Like the Simpsons. I know, I know. This newest incarnation is the closest thing to looking like fun that I've seen in many a year, and makes me curious as to whether I could attempt to salvage the potential memories of my past.

  • Blue. Not Green. Not Yellow. Not Diamond or Pearl. Not Opal or Sandstone or Bio-luminescent or Xenon. And especially not Red. Black/White is the first Pokemon game since way back when that I'd give a whirl. A Polywhirl... in fact... ugh.

  • Everyone flipped out for the original Portal, which I think negatively colored my experience through much of the game when I played it a few months after it was first released. But then I cried at the end. I have no idea why. Valve has me, and I will follow along obediently.

  • No More Heroes was more of a entity you had to play more than a game you had to play. But I liked it.

  • I don't think "I sat around my keyboard with my friends for hours." is a unique story when it comes to You Don't Know Jack, but its inherent originality does not detract from its true-ness.
