I can't feel that bad because staff made SERIOUS bank and I think everyone was in on the joke that this wasn't going to last. When Jirard joined he was a main host and put out a video announcing it where he was very much like, "This is a dream come true and yeah I know this probably isn't going to last so going to enjoy while it does." (paraphrasing) which I though was a very weird attitude to have. That'd be like when Dan joined GB this year if he was like "Yeah, so going to do this for a year and then move on probably." (even if that is what happens you don't announce that and you hopefully have faith in the product).

G4 reboot was not great but it had its moments, especially when they just chilled out and played games recalling the glorious days of Giant Bomb. I love Jirard but had mixed feelings about this whole venture. It would have been like if Gerstmann left Giant Bomb in 2012 to join IGN, leaving behind all these friends and chemistry he built up in favor of a bigger platform. It's not exactly like that since Jirard didn't completely leave his company and G4 was more about his childhood dream than money, but I hope he can gracefully return to Super Beard Bros and start contributing again because their chemistry is just the best. So in a way this whole G4 thing is over, selfishly, as SBB content is so, so much better than anything G4 managed to put out. Sadly, SBB also struggles to pay the bills. It's sad how much crap gets massive numbers and real gems like SBB or MinnMax (both of which feel closer to GB than GB these days, tbh) barely scrape by.

I did on PC. It was very impressive and cool but one of those games I stopped playing shortly after starting due to having no idea where to go or what to do. Felt very much like an old PC game.

Giant Bomb's Random PC Game of it is great. One of the last they did, I think, before Dave left :(

Jeff was practically in tears explaining how relieved he was to leave the site yesterday. This isn't like a "Jeff is going to a big corporate game developer job now" or even "striking out to start his own Nextlander". He's clearly depressed/confused and trying to get things back together to save his own mental health. He's figuring it out as he goes along. So with that all in mind, I don't think it was really setup to be like "this is Jeff's farewell tour" -- he just needed out fast and probably all the policies RV enforces around departures only made things more restrictive.

If you're a fan of the site then what you should be focused on is that Jeff seems happier now and the crew is stronger than start of pandemic and saying things we've been wanting to hear for a while (focus on games, live events, and in-person streams soon).

I've been rewatching 2012 (decade old) content for kicks and it's surreal looking at the comments and seeing how many accounts are deleted. Kind of sad. But also see some names I recognize who stayed with the site and some who even made a name for themselves on YouTube, inspired by GiantBomb. Also funny seeing comments raging at Patrick, swearing they will cancel their subscription if he's in a another video. Or people upset about CBS/Gamespot merger or excited about it. At the end of the day, it's just content. You like it or you don't. TBH, I haven't liked it since the pandemic but I'm open to liking it again now with today's changes. And if not, always have the classics to watch again.

This is like the best possible thing that could happen to GB right now. I love Jeff but he obviously was just not vibing anymore. Dan was the most important person in the history of the site. I really do believe that. Things were dire after Ryan's passing and the site barely hummed along, although some great times were had (love the Volgar the Viking playthrough), and Dan's presence instantly changed everything overnight. I'm a little skeptical how much he's really going to commit, given he recently stopped his film podcast due to burnout and said how much more free he felt after leaving GB. But it's nice to have him, all the same. I've been here since year one but barely watched any content since Dan left but now think I'll watch quite a bit. Awesome stuff!

Excellent summary. I wasn't into Gamespot -- for some reason I was a GS hater back then -- but got into GB during their first annual GOTY awards in 2008. Been a daily visitor and listener/watcher since. I plan to start listening to On the Spot in 2025 when it starts to be its 20-year anniversary so that will be fun.

Maybe I'm just weird but I get so much enjoyment out of revisiting content that I don't get that bummed about the changes. Plus there is Dan, Nextlander, Waypoint and my favorite MinnMax (which doesn't share GB staff but somehow feels closest to the site's original spirit).

Main thing I want from the site is for them to either secure the old content "somehow" (impossible probably) or just confirm they won't so people can start archiving.

I've been rewatching 2012 content every week. Thought it would be a fun nostalgic trip but it's actually still great entertainment. Will probably keep doing this for years to come now. The classic GB stuff really holds up and it's fun hearing them all speculate about what's to come when you already know. I forgot how sharp and funny Gerstmann was back then, like all the dang time. Ryan was just the perfect host. I even love Patrick. So sad seeing like 40% of the comments slamming him but I bet old fans would love if he were there now. Definitely give the old stuff a watch or rewatch sometime. You may be surprised.

Tainted Grail: Conquest is on game pass I believe. It’s a bit odd but should scratch the same itch.

Balance is pretty off and overall game lacks polish but still had a lot of fun with it and glad I gave it a chance on game pass. It's weirdly dark though. A merchant sells you a rope to commit suicide and I thought, "There has to be more to this, right?" but no you just kill yourself and your run is over. Not the only cheap death you'll hit in the game either.
