LordAndrew: Best of 2010

List items

  • Super Meat Boy is hard. Very hard. But it's the type of game that manages to keep me coming back again and again, and when I finally manage to beat a level it's just all the more satisfying. In addition to the great gameplay, the game is also pretty funny.

  • I've always enjoyed the Professor Layton series, with its great puzzles and satisfying stories. They were not without problems though, and most of those problems have been eliminated in Unwound Future. The puzzles are even better, and the story is fantastic and bittersweet.

  • You like spikes? This game's got spikes.

  • Recettear is an item shop simulator and dungeon crawling RPG. Seriously. It's a very charming game, but surprisingly challenging. To the surprise of many, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale is actually a very good game.

  • If you've ever played a WarioWare game, you know what to expect. Short quirky minigames thrown at you in quick succession. But in WarioWare D.I.Y., that's only part of the game. D.I.Y.'s hook is that you can create your own minigames, modify the included minigames, or download minigames created by others. Minigame creation is easy to learn, but still quite powerful. Even people who don't intend to create their own games can play minigames created by others, some of which are very impressive.

  • As much as I try to deny that Minecraft is a 2010 release, I really can't deny the impact it had in 2010. When I think about all the time I've spent playing this game, I can't help but give it a spot in my top 10.

  • I haven't spent a lot of time in Game Room, but the thought of someone paying three dollars for an unreleased joke demo fills me with so much joy that excluding it would be a pity. Actually, I'm just running out of games to put in this list.
