Vault Dweller

My Dad left me in the Vault and I gave chase. I'm now in a world full of super mutants and heartless raiders. I'm a good guy and I haven't committed a 'crime' as of yet. Megaton is my home, but hearing the preachers pray to that bomb makes me want to visit Tenpenny Tower - There's always a second time to play through. Why does GNR and Englave keep repeating? Fallout 3 is awesome, by the way.

Gears of War 2 comes out tomorrow. I will pick it up next week...maybe.

Excuse my Ignorance

This goes to show my complete lack of education when it comes to comics. But I had no idea there was a super hero called ‘Captain Britain’ in the Marvel universe. I had heard of him before. But never knew he was an established character, though.

Apparently he was born and raised in a quaint English town in Essex. I really need to get more up to date on the comic scene and look beyond the typical characters such as the X-Men, Spiderman and The Incredible Hulk.

Aboard the Normandy

So I’ve been replaying Mass Effect lately. Already my enjoyment of the game has risen considerably since my first play through. I’m taking more time to appreciate the environment which looks gorgeous, in my opinion. I absolutely love the art direction of this game.

I’m not that far into the story as I’m trying to complete more side ‘quests’. I’ve only done a couple so far. But I have my check list to find every side mission in the Citadel.

Mass Effect’s environment is l-u-s-h

My only real gripe with Mass Effect is the numerous bugs found within the game. For those of you have played it, you might know what I’m talking about. Sometimes I find that my Sheppard gets stuck in one spot – For example, I was jogging through the Normandy Ship on the way to meet Joker. I was then called to a halt on one spot which forced me to load up the game again. There are occasional slow downs, too. Along with a few random bugs – Such as when I went into a cut scene with an enemy on screen (believe me, that creature shouldn’t have been there). But apart from that, the game is solid, cool, awesome, fun, enjoyable, good, etc.

My character is called Leia Sheppard (notice the Star Wars reference, eh?), she is a female this time (or at least I hope she is) and falls under the Vanguard. This gives me the opportunity to use biotic powers (something I missed during my first play through). They seem OK so far. I also have two crew members with me - Kaidan Alenko the human sentinel and Garrus Vakarian the turian agent. I especially wanted Garrus in my team because I like his subtle humour and dry personality. Kaidan is becoming annoying.

I’m hoping this time I can appreciate the sheer size of the galaxy. During my first play through I beat the main quest fairly quickly and didn’t give myself time to explore those uncharted worlds and side quests. I know the whole world and quest side of things have been criticised for being a little simplistic and repetitive. But am I right in thinking that every uncharted world has some variation to the environment? If so, that’s enough to keep me coming back. As long as they don’t all look like Mars, I’m fine.

P.S: GiantBomb. PLEASE fix the friend network problem. I add a friend, they accept, I’m on their friend list, but they’re not on mine. It’s really annoying because I don’t get any blog updates.

Lost at sea

I want to play Wind Waker. I remember playing the hell out of it before I got my Xbox 360. In fact, I don't think I was that far from the end. But leaving a Zelda game and coming back to it a year later just isn't a good idea, is it?

When loading it up I'm in the middle of the ocean with no clue what to do...

Hmmm, I forgot to mention

Now that I'm back from my trip to Turkey I've had plenty of time to catch up on the 'e' side of things. It has to be said that GiantBomb.com is a neat site. I haven't even bothered visiting many other URL's these past few days. I'm enjoying the whole Wiki side of things. Uploading content is surprisingly enjoyable. I'm amazed to see so many users reaching the 1000 points mark so soon! Mine are going up sooo slowly.

P.S: I miss warm weather. Overcast sky and rain sucks big time.

Stoked for Fallout 3

My interest in Fallout 3 has risen significantly over the past few weeks. Shamefully, I've never actually played any of the previous games. But looking at certain gameplay videos and the amount of online petitions set up by Fallout fanatics, it's clear that the third instalment has taken quite the leap from its predecessors.

Listening to Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinny compare it to Oblivion has taken my interest to the next level. Oblivion was a fantastic game and I clocked over 180 hours into it. Let's hope the post-apocalyptic world is just as engrossing as Cyrodiil’s...

Anyone else looking forward to Fallout 3?

Thoughts on Sheva

For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge Resident Evil fan. I much prefer the 'old school' style of play. The classic eerie atmosphere and set camera angles. Despite my love for the original gameplay, Resident Evil 4 is probably one of the greatest games I've ever played. So my anticipation for Resident Evil 5 has been big ever since it's announcement 200 years ago.

Anyway, the point of the blog isn't to reminisce on past games or to express my anticipation of Resident Evil 5. I'm here to complain! After watching the most recent gameplay demo of Resident Evil 5 I can't help but feel a little apprehensive. To set the record straight - I do not like AI coo-op. Never have, never will. When playing a single player game I do not want to have to worry about some other character. There's nothing more annoying than some brainless AI based partner who keeps dying or letting you know that they need help. There are some cases in which the AI works well...but never perfect, in my humble opinion.

There are exceptions:

  • - If the AI team mate dies and the game doesn’t end
  • - If the AI is a only used in a certain part of the game
  • - If the AI team mate is optional for online coop

This is the exact thing that put me off Resident Evil 0 and protecting Ashley for a short period in Resident Evil 4. For me, it’s the most annoying task in a game and feels like a chore which adds frustration when playing. Watching the gameplay video for Resident Evil 5, it doesn’t seem as if Sheva is any break through in terms of AI companionship. According to the preview, whenever Sheva is under attack a ‘Help!’ sign flashes by her name along with arrows telling you were she is – Now you must admit, that is very annoying.

Sheva - Your fellow team mate
Sheva - Your fellow team mate

Perhaps it’s just me. But I really dislike the idea of this addition. Donating ammunition, sending her to open doors, sending her up to high ledges and helping her in a dangerous situation isn’t my idea of fun. In a game such as Resident Evil 5, which is already over-whelmed with enemies, I don’t want to worry about another character too.

I may come across a little harsh in this post. But I’m just expressing my thoughts.  This isn’t full judgement and I’m confident that Capcom will totally turn my opinion around when the game comes out. But you get the idea. I’m not a fan of any AI companion which is constantly integrated in any game.

This doesn’t diminish my anticipation for Resident Evil 5, though. It still looks awesome.
