I don't agree with either of those choices at all. I though Thane was easily the best character in Mass Effect 2, but still my favorite character this year was by far John Marston.
Not that I want to turn this into a Morrowind Vs Oblivion argument, but I really wish they head back in the direction of Morrowind. There were so many things that I loved about Morrowind that were just completely scrapped in Oblivion.
"ME2 offers way more in terms of emotions, story, characters, and even original score."
No it doesn't. How can you say a game with hardly any facial animation has more emotion than Red Dead Redemption? Not to mention the voice acting in Red Dead Redemption was much better. All the cutscenes where perfectly done with lots of subtle facial animations, and very good motion capture. John Marston was a great character, better than any characters from Mass Effect 2 in my opinion. Mass Effect 2 had some nice smooth graphics, mainly on the character models, but the environments really lacked detail. Where as RDR was a fantastic looking game all-round. Both had great music.
