Who/what the hell are Papo and Yo and what do they have to do with the game? (I haven't played it yet so maybe it's obvious to someone who has)

This smells bad from all angles. As far as I can tell Blizzard has a tangential claim to the DOTA name and Valve has no claim to it at all, but is still trying to trademark it for some reason.

This.

@ludorverr:

It's not really in their best interest to cover free games nearly as much as the ones that we as consumers have to pay for. The bottom line of a video game site like this is for users to come and get information about a game before we spend our money it. If a game is free to obtain, then we (the consumer) is able to get this information by ourselves, and we don't need somebody else to hand it to us. That should be the job of the Ludum Dare site and the developers making the games.

If a company is going to charge me $60 dollars for a game, then it is in their interest to spend money on advertising to make sure they convince me their game is good. Then I go to a website that has paid employees who are going to give me more information on this product. If the game's free, then none of that is a consideration because I'm not investing my own money, only my time and I can form my own opinion. If you're an indie developer that's complaining about lack of publicity, I'm sorry but you're going to have to spend some time or money making sure that people know about your game. Unfortunately it's all about the money.

I agree that the situation sucks. But you should be happy that there was an article at all, because I guarantee 90% of the GiantBomb community had no idea about the Ludum Dare. And now because of Patrick writing this article, I wonder how many more hits the Ludum Dare site will get...

Man, the multiplayer in this game is absolutely impenetrable for a new player... I've been stuck at rank 1 for hours. I like this game so much, but I can't even begin to be competitive in multiplayer. It kind of takes the fun out of an FPS when you can't contribute to your team's progress, let alone shoot somebody. And it's not like I'm a terrible shooter player... I'm pretty good at Call of Duty games, and am a veteran Counter-Strike player. Do I just keep bashing my head against the wall for hours until I finally unlock some better equipment? Or move on to a different game that might not be as deep, but I can at least compete in?

Great article Patrick, I look forward to more of your writing! Critical and objective analysis like this is hard to come by.

It sucks when you are so in love with a game, and you boot it up only to have one unlucky experience that turns you off completely. This seems to be happening over and over for this game, I want to love it so bad, but I have a hard time believing I'll finish the game, let alone play through it a few more times on different characters.

This is what happened to me (on a few occasions). If you choose to play as Logan, you are literally deciding to cripple yourself for the rest of the game. It's not even that his stats/skills are bad, it's bad game mechanics. For a person that's supposed to specialize in throwing weapons, the game sure likes to go out of it's way to make sure it kills you after you've thrown your two maces and a machete at a thug (don't even get me started on Thugs) before it kills you, then spawns you BACK AT THE CHURCH. And it's not like you can find your way back to get your blues because there are NO RECOGNIZABLE FEATURES in that freaking map. Just the same city block OVER AND OVER again.

I'm considering re-rolling and going with a different character that maybe isn't so jank. I'd like to check out Purna, but seeing how fucked their "all-rounder" character is, I feel like any more specialized character will just be more fucked. From what I can tell, Sam B is the way to go.

Anybody have any insight/suggestions/ideas/flames/their own stories that make you want to quit the game? It seems like there are a lot...
