It's probably not going to be a masterpiece and will probably feel dated, but I have enough faith in Ueda's vision and perfectionism to believe is going to be at least pretty good.
It's official: Double Fine is addicted to crowdfunding. I dunno man, I feel like they've burnt through a lot of goodwill over the past 3 years, partially due to their own honesty about the realities of game development. That's probably why it's on Fig and not Kickstarter.
So you're saying it would be better if they were less honest? I don't know, their transparency is the reason I'm going to pitch in money again (that and how much I loved Broken Age).
Edit: After posting this I realized my avatar is Tim Schafer. I'm not Tim Schafer.
What are some of your favorite character designers in video games? Soejima from Persona and Shinkawa from Metal Gear Solid are the first to come to my mind, what are yours?
I'm always put off by the procedurally-generated aspect of these type of games. I get that in a way it adds replayability, but it also makes everything feel kind of soulless. Also the random factor means some levels will be stupid hard and others real easy, because thats just how the tiles fell this time around. I'd take fewer hand crafted and player tested levels over infinite randomized ones anyday. I mean just imagine if Portal was procedurally generated? Sure it would be longer but those puzzles wouldn't be nearly as good.
Yep, when I learned it was a procedurally-generated game, all of my hype for it went away. But it's actually pretty good.
I did in fact! Has some pretty good ideas and narrative, but it's not even close to being finished. It's sooo buggy and unpolished, it looks and plays like an alpha. It is also pretty short, 2-3 hours tops.
I thought I was done with these kinds of games after playing (and pretty much hating) Dark Souls 2 and Lords of the Fallen. But I loved loved loved Bloodborne. Is my second favorite of them all right now.
My list goes: Dark Souls > Bloodborne> Demon's Souls > a few light years > Dark Souls 2
