So for those who do not know I am on a 2 month trip to Europe and since my computer is a piece of junk and runs linux, there are very few games I can run, I had left the US prepared to spend the next two months high and dry of video games but much to my happiness last week I found that 2D-BOY was having a sale on World of Goo which coincidentaly has a Linux version, I was both suprised and very hapy and went and bought the game for $10, I had to have debate inside myself about being a cheap bastard versus my ethics and the ethics won so I didn't day 1 cent for the game. Anyway I am finding Worldof Goo good fun if somewhat harder without a mouse (I didn't bring one since I had not anticipated playing games and figured I would not need it).
Cut to a few days ago, I was listening to a Podcastand they were piming out Gopod Old Games and it occured to me that my computer might be able to run some older PC games, I went out and bought Fallout 1 and 2 as well as Beyond Good and Evil and so far I have only tried Fallout but it worked. I am super phyched since I loved Fallout 3 especialy the world and wanted to spend more time in the wastes.
I have to say for an old game it holds up very well, I was not used to the systems for the game and I caught on pretty quick, the game so far has been engaging despite its age and the gameplay actually quite enjoyable. I am somewhat peeved since the controls are old and being emulated in WINE which is the Linux way of running windows programs so it can be a bit odd. Overall though the gameplay is stil fun, the story is enjoyable and combat remarkably tight. It's not perfect but to highlight one of my favorate points I recently had a fight where I has hit in the crotch and fell to the floor taking a turn to get up, I imediatly got pissed at losing my turn and though "thats horrible" while at the same time thinking how perfect it was, just a nice little touch of realism. Cant wait to finish and move on to Fallout 2 which should not be too long since I am ripping up Fallout.
The prices for the games were also very appealing with the whole deal clocking in at $22, 6 for each of the Fallout games and 10 for BGE.
