Best Final Fantasy games that I've played.

List items

  • Believable protagonist. Seriously, he felt grounded. He was humorous and collected, but could lose his temper like anybody else. He took interest in the world around him. That, and I felt the combat to be much more involved. More strategy, more fun.

  • Simple. In the best way possible.

  • While the characters never really meant much to me, I loved the emphasis on summoning. It was a new take on an old system, though magic in the game was largely useless. The story was much easier to follow than its predecessor, without being completely out there.

  • I don't get the hate for this game. Sure, it was a grind. But the world of Ivalice feels so fleshed out. Most other games seem to treat the overworld as some sort of hub: "go here via here; pay no mind to that village over the hill or the rock formations." Everything (the people, the places) felt like it had a purpose.

  • I'm skewed because I've only ever played the DS version. No save-points made the game frustrating. However, I liked the job system, and this was one of the first few games to offer significant side missions. Still, no save-points make it hard to love it. Once again, I know this was only that way in the DS version.

  • I'm still confused to this day about the plot. I mean, I get the gist, but so many of the small, but important, details go over my head. What is the nature of Jenova? How can it replicate Sephiroth? Considering I played it just as much as IX and VIII by virtue of being on the PSone, I see no reason for the story to be so unmemorable. That, and the spin-off stuff has thrown all my knowledge about the lore out the window.

  • Sure, the stat system was interesting, innovative, and pretty neat, but it was broken. It could be abused, and it didn't help that a TON of enemies used percentage-based attacks to counteract this abuse. The weird also felt sorta weird. I don't know, that one inland ocean bothers me. It's the smallest complaint I have, but it sorta ruins the immersion factor.
