I can't believe I just sat here and read this whole thread.

Anyway, I'm still going to buy Final Fantasy 13 because I at least know it will have good production values. If it's not the best game I've ever played, whatever. But it won't be terrible.

Metacritic is for people who just want to make sure the product they're buying isn't crap. The especially picky consumer is going to research more, but Metacritic should be there for people who want to see the general way reviews for a game are going. All that said, I prefer GameRankings over Metacritic.

I don't think they should make a sequel, no matter how much money it makes, and that's not because I didn't like the movie, because I did.

@PenguinDust: The ODST vs. Batman example you just used is basically the same thing. You have the great single player of Batman, while the multiplayer of ODST lasts much longer, but each hour you spend playing it doesn't pack the same punch as an hour in Batman.

They obviously were going by the impact that some of those games had on moving the industry forward. I think it's a good list, the games that are on top deserve it, even though they're not my favorite games.

I don't believe length of a game or total playtime should factor into overall enjoyment. If there's a 5 hour game of exceptional quality versus a game that is "pretty good" and lasts for 25 hours, I'll take the 5 hour game every time. Sure, you're not getting as much bang for your buck and you could wish the game is a bit longer, but that's independent of the enjoyment you're actually getting from the game. I can see how other people would have vastly different opinions on this, but this is just how I personally feel about it.

I'd say Dragon Age would probably stand a chance if more of the guys had played it, but some of them have either not played it or have only barely started. "
Exactly my thinking.

Valve has got their hooks in me for everything L4D, and there are very few franchises I can say that for. I'd pay whatever they charge.

I'm hoping they do something like Oblivion did and release a full expansion pack. If not, I hope they just start working on the inevitable sequel.
