When I see a story like this all I can think of is, "whoah, the person who leaked this is totally fired." and they definitely wont get to sue for severance. Victory for the press sneak fucks I guess...
@thedefender89: Yeah, I'm sure when the Eurozone collapses that public healthcare will melt away in the face of creditors and deficits, no matter the public outcry. Anyone following Greece? This isn't just a post Reagan/Thatcher era, this is a post recession era, you frankly don't have a choice in what your taxes pay for, pretty soon there will be barely any taxes period, and General Electric will be billing you directly for that x-ray you just got. All pro-labor gains can be reversed if the politics are spun the right way, as evidenced by many of the attitudes expressed here.
The argument for public funding of the arts such as video games is that they wouldn't sell enough to sustain themselves, therefore the rules of capitalism dictate that they can't exist if the makers want to eat and clothe themselves. So whether or not you think the game sucks really doesn't matter, the idea is that if games relied entirely on sales then we would have far fewer games out there, and they would somehow be even shittier than they are now. Hell, they might not even exist at all since most of the early games were experiments done by publicly funded scientists.
It's 2015, public funding for anything is considered politically toxic. It's obvious just from the insane neoliberal hypercapitalist comments filling this article's comment section. People in the US and Europe, don't think its appropriate for for taxes to fund anything except concentration camps for illegals, let alone artistic projects that would never exist otherwise. Instead everyone needs to fend for themselves and let big companies do anything they can to make as much money as possible.
In fact we should all thank our lucky stars that we still have a number of publicly traded publishers still funding video games because eventually the high risk/ low returns reality of the business is going to get through to investors and the few remaining publishers will go the Konami route and look for more lucrative markets.
Wait, so do we actually know if both these Oculus Touch controllers and an XBone controller will come included with the Rift? Cause then it would have to come with the XBone PC dongle, and this all sounds extremely expensive.
While it's sad to see people lose their jobs, their last couple of games where pretty fucking horrible, so it's likely safe to say the Maxis we knew and loved has likely been gone for some time now.
The op's post feels borderline troll, and what could have been an excellent discussion is instead filled with standard disrespectful internet bullshit. And you say you're a grad student studying theology? You probably feel like the odd person out of your peers because you went into your education with a political agenda.
This game is fantastic. The series has been evolving in smart ways since European Escalation. Although, I'd like to see a larger variety of ships, that will likely be addressed with some free and paid DLC. Unfortunately, I think only Drew would be interested in this game out of the GB crew and I don't know how into RTS games he is. Would love to see a Red Dragon QL though.
