Playing FF7 Rebirth is giving me the Bad Thought of replaying other FF games.

Weekly Roundup 07/08/2012

I don’t really have much to say this week, as I’ve been on vacation for the past two weeks (which was awesome by the way). I can still give a quick update though. The only gaming I did on vacation was Super Mario 3D Land, but I did manage to finish what I’m going to play of that, so I can give a few final thoughts.

Not Mario's best game, but still a fun adventure.
Not Mario's best game, but still a fun adventure.

First, my status: I beat all the main and special worlds in Mario 3D Land. I also got all the gold medals in every level but two, both of which were in the final special world. Overall I really enjoyed the game. As I mentioned before, Nintendo just knows how to make these games so well at this point, and the act of playing it is simply fun. At the same time, Mario 3D Land ended up being a bit more conservative than I expected. Maybe I was just spoiled with the Super Mario Galaxy games, but Mario 3D Land could have been a little more creative and, to put it bluntly, crazy. It’s why I didn’t care too much for the New Super Mario Bros. games, and Mario 3D Land is certainly closer to those.

The other way that Mario 3D Land skews more towards the New Super Mario Bros. games is in its difficulty. If I had to make another substantial complaint it would be that Mario 3D Land was very easy for the majority of the game. Only in the last few special worlds did it finally get somewhat tough, and even then it was only hard if you went for the gold medals. I appreciated that challenge once it did come, but it just took too long. Anyway, I enjoyed the game overall, and am glad I played it, but I don’t think it’s Mario’s best game. Not my favorite at least.

As for what’s next, it’s a grab bag of stuff. First up will be Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, which I’m wanting to play more than I reasonably should. I’ll pick that up today and get going on it. Following that I’m really eager to check out Civilization V: Gods & Kings and The Walking Dead Episode 2. I have some other things in mind as well, but those are the three game I’ll likely be playing the most this coming week. So that’s going to do it for now, until next time!

Currently playing: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
