Greetings Internet, My name is Daniel.
I hail from Warwick, In QLD Australia. Like many of you i originally came from Jeff's Former site Gamespot. Originally i was at gamespot purely for the editorial content where i took a liking to Greg Kasavins reviews. After a while however, i discovered the hotspot and on the spot. There i grew fond of personalities such as Jeff, Ryan, Vinnie, Brad, Rich Gallup, Alex Navarro, and a few others. I wasnt a person who left the site after Jeff Got fired but it was then that i gradually lost interest in the site after more and more of the people i had come to follow on the site departed.
After Jeff's departure i didnt closely follow what he was going to do next although in the back of my mind i was interested. Admittedly i sort of came across this site in an odd kind of way. One day i was watching old Gamespot video's on youtube and i had to wiki something and somehow i came across Jeff Gerstmann's wiki page where i learned that he had started up a website (Then in blog form) called Giantbomb. Most of the rest is history, i've been on the site ever since, although its only recently that i have become involved on the forums, started blogging a little and going on the Giantbomb IRC.
I have been gaming since a young age, most of my roots are with the PC. While i owned consoles growing up its only been this generation that i have really made consoles a full part of my gaming habits.
I started gaming on my Grandfathers 286, my parents hadnt bought a PC yet for our household so i used to play games when i would sleep over my grandparents place. I became captured by games like the original Prince of Persia, Commander Keen, and Major Stryker rendered in thier then slightly outdated EGA graphics. That all changed when my parents bought thier first PC in 1994.
Back then i thought our 486 with SVGA graphics was awesome although i was still back then mostly into Apogee classics like Hocus Pocus, Raptor, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, Rise of the Triad and some early Epic Games like Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jack Rabbit, Epic Pinball, etc.
Around this time i had always wanted a super nintendo, but my parents thought that the pc was enough and wouldnt buy one. They did however buy me a Gameboy after alot of begging although they claim it was intended to shut me up in the car. While not a proper home gaming console i still enjoyed many games on the system such as: Wario Land 1 and 2, Mario Land 2, Donkey Kong Land 1 & 2 etc.
It wasnt until the Nintendo 64 that i got my first home console which i paid for half, my parents agreed to pay for the rest. My first 2 games on the system were Starwars Episode 1: Pod Racer, and Mario 64. I loved nintendo cause of the Super nintendo and the Gameboy but despite the great games that came out on the N64 i had always regretted buying one instead of the Playstation. Games like Final fantasy and Twisted metal (Amoung others) just appealed to me more. Occasionally a friend and I would trade systems over the weekend so i could play PS1 games which he didnt have a problem with because he wanted to play Blast Corps, Banjo Kazooie and other
titles that he couldnt on the PS1. It was a pretty cool arrangement that we had as kids lol.
When the next generation of consoles came around i went with Sony and bought a PS2, i was 14 at the time. To be honest i was mostly a PC gamer at this point (Probably due to most of my friends being hardcore pc gamers) and at times my PS2 went untouched for almost a year at a time. The only time it would come back out of my Wardrobe was when a new Resident Evil, Silent Hill, or Final Fantasy came out. I actually missed out on a lot of great PS2 games due to be being Oblivious to thier release. I had an Original Xbox for a while but it never got played much by me so i sold it. It is really only this generation that i have become a fully fledged console gamer.
My favourite times in gaming are probably between 1997 and around 2004. Some of my favourite games of all time are the earlier Infinity Engine games like Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 etc, and the First 2 Fallout Games.
I also had a big like to First Person games with RPG elements like Deus Ex 1 and System Shock 2. I was majorly into RPG's back then, now its a bit all over the place. Thier not very popular games but i also have a softspot for old school adventure games, or games that look back to those sort of times. Love the Shenmue games, Longest Journey, Dreamfall and other games like that despite some of those games flaws.
PC games dont get played much by me anymore, although i do keep a semi-decently kept up to date PC for whenever my friends are interested in having a LAN (Thier still hardcore PC Gamers).
Computer Wise i'm mostly a Mac user now which means that for the most part my computer is for internet and work only. 99% of my gaming is done completely on console.
I've got a PS3 and 360, i used to own a Wii but it wasnt being used so i sold it. Having it sit untouched for around 10 or so months was becoming kind of disheartening.
I have been for most of my console experience been a Sony Follower, but this generation i'm more towards the middle, as i feel both systems have thier good and bad points.
