But hey, that's from wikipedia so I could be full of shit. Now where's that main article....

But as far as story wise in any sequel prequel deal i prefer a sequel. Why because a prequal will usually just end up being a huge fan wank that will pale in comparison to the original material and in fact make you think less of the original material. It will attempt ot explain things that were better left unsaid and at the same time screw up current characters.

Dont believe me? 3 words STAR WARS PREQUELS."

The prequel actually comes before the sequel. Just had to clarify that! haha

What is your preferred game between these prequel/vs/sequel face-offs and why do you prefer said prequel or sequel? (mostly for game series that seem to have only 2 main games(they can be part of a bigger series of games)). I'll try to include lots of games in case you haven't played some of them.

Shadow of the Colossus vs Ico
Jet Grind Radio vs Jet Set Radio Future
Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross (Excluding Radical Dreamers)
Stalker: Clear Sky (I assume this one is the prequel since it takes place before the the first one)  vs Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Megaman Legends 1 vs Megaman Legends 2
Digital Devil Saga 1 vs Digital Devil Saga 2
Zone of the Enders vs Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner
Etrian Odyssey vs Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard
Yakuza vs Yakuza 2
Drakengard vs Drakengard 2
Shenmue vs Shenmue 2

(I'll also include these final fantasy game because the FF games aren't related to the other FF games with different numerical values)

Final Fantasy Tactics vs Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Final Fantasy X vs Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy VII vs Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Final Fantasy XII vs Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

I'll post my preferences on a few of these games in a little bit.

"The basic idea is to encourage people to read the review, and not just look at the number."

You could encourage people to read the review by getting rid of a rating and just having a review.

This one seems a bit off... shouldn't it be the 1 star that deserves that rating description? hahaha

Just out of curiosity, what was the main reason for choosing a 5 star (whole values) system for the ratings on this site. Was it to avoid those outrages over trivial matters in your reviews ( "8.8")?. It's fine and a pretty standard rating system, but it's a lot less specific in some sense. Often times when I'm reading a review I feel like I want really get a more specific idea on just how good or bad a game.

For example, these three games were the most recent 5 star rating staff reviewed games on this website:

RockBand 2
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

Now, the only problem with this is I don't know if these games are revolutionary games that come around only once every 10 years and I should buy the console that they are on just to play them, or if they're a pretty good game that I only possibly will like.

Really, I don't have too much of a problem with the rating system, but I don't always feel like reading every review or even all of  a review to grasp just how good a game might be. But I guess that's not really an issue because you usually put a summation statement at the start of your staff reviews.

All in all I just want to know the main reason that a 5 star rating system was chosen. haha

The on-rail shooting parts disappoint me... Mostly because I thought it was going to be like a 3rd person shooter sort of like resident evil 4 style.

The last game I bought was Odin Sphere. I'll probably start it at the end of the week.

SMB3. I guess I just like the tone of the game. It's mega happy and it has my favorite musical score out of the mario games.
