Well...my Xbox is broken...

I turn on my Xbox the other day and get greeted to a fuzzy screen...great
I had sent it in for RROD before but now it was out of warranty.
The weird thing is that I can still hear it boot up the dashboard and cycle through the tabs but I can't load anything.
I did the whole thing of fiddling with the cables and switching/reseting the video setting but to no avail.
I guess I have to send it in again and this time pay for it...
yay...

Internet just capped, what to do?

Okay so I apparently just hit my download limit and now my internet has slowed right down, urgh!
Strangely GiantBomb loads pretty quick but the other Whiskey Media sites don't...???
So without fast internet I need something to do until June 1st.
Any ideas on what to do until then?

Alpha Protocol out now?

Okay so I logged into Steam and saw that Alpha Protocol is out now (in Australia).
I had no Idea that it was coming out so early so I was rather surprised and thought it must be a mistake.
But apparently it is available now and there are no reviews out so I don't know if it's worth the $70 USD they're asking for.
What to do? Buy now and hope it's good or decide later after the reviews come out?

Also Steam has been charging more money if you're in Australia which is weird because the argument for charging more was that they had to ship it and such but that doesn't account for digital downloads. WHAT THE HELL?!

I've found a new love for Steam

I used to not like digital distribution.
Not because I prefer hard copies of games (even though I do) but because the internet providers in Australia give us very limited transfer limits and I didn't want to use it up.

A few months ago, after having Telstra as my service provider for years and having them try to charge me an extra $600 for going over my cap,  I decided I'd had enough. The next day I decided to drop Telstra and switch to an Internode plan.

The transfer limit/rate is about the same but the best thing about it is that all steam downloads from australian servers are uncapped and unmetered. This means I can download as much as I want from australian steam servers without it counting towards my transfer limit.
So with some simple programs to monitor which servers Steam connects to, I can finally download steam games without fear of going over my transfer limit.

So my point is I hate Internode because I no longer have an excuse to not spend heaps of money on Steam games.

Edit:
I should mention I used TCPView to see which servers Steam is connecting to and SteamWatch to set which ips it's allowed to connect to.

Australian R18+ Games Classification Discussion Paper

The long awaited discussion paper for the R18+ classification of games has finally been released.
Details for the paper can be found on the Attorney-General's Department website and the discussion paper can be found here
If you wish to make a submission, the details for entry as well as a template can be found here

All submissions must be made by COB on the 28th of February 2010.

PLEASE do not just send in hate mail or stupid comments because they won't be accepted and they definitely won't help our cause.
This is our chance to make a difference to how our country perceives "gamers" as well eliminating the need for censoring or banning games that do not meet the current highest rating of MA15+.

I have great hopes for this.

All Of The Saw Movies Are Terrible...Except The First One

I understand how people who have seen the Saw movies can find them bad, because they are...for the most part.
From the second movie onwards, the focus has been on elaborate and disgusting ways to make people mutilate and/or kill themselves or others.

I don't know if everyone who hates these movies has seen the first one but there is little to no gore in it.
In my opinion this makes it so much better because it is more of a psychological thriller rather than a "torture porn" type of film.
It’s well acted and has many interesting twists that made it a great movie built around the emotions and mental state of the characters rather than shoving blood and guts in your face and then saying “oh, by the way there’s these people and stuff...”

So my recommendation is see the first movie and never watch a Saw movie ever again.

EB makes me and Persona 4 sad

OK, so I live in Canberra and I went searching all around the city looking for a copy of persona 4 but had no success.
My house is around a place called Gungahlin so I ended up looking around there on the way back. I had a look around the EB there and asked if they had the game.
I was informed that EB in Belconnen (about 15mins away) had a copy so they offered to have it brought down to this store for me. I figured that since it wasn't that far away it should take a week at most so I tentatively agreed.

The next week I went back and asked about it, they told me that it wasn't here and could take another week or two (at most) to come in. I was a little annoyed but I just accepted it.

Two weeks later I went back and asked if it had come in yet...
...it had not...
Apparently the game is still in transit and won't be in until the next week. That is a total of FOUR WEEKS to bring in a game from Belconnen to Gungahlin only 15mins away. I could have crawled there and back by now.

I'm not neccessarily blaming EB for this long transit time, but I'm annoyed at them because if they had just told me it would be four weeks I would've said NO THANKS, I CAN DRIVE THERE IN 15 MINUTES!!!

Well I should have the game by this Friday so I'm happy for that.
Also the guy I talked to on Monday said if it isn't in by then he would go get it for me.
Apparently the guy who I originally talked to lost his job the week before, I wonder why...

Rock Band Australia *Update*

Yesterday, Rock Band was finally anounced for Australia to come out on XBox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii on November 7 this year.
Now, this is a start but I can't help but think that Rock Band 2 is out now...why can't we have that too?
They have said that they have improved the peripherals, why do he have to have these old instruments that the developers themselves say are inferior?
But I guess I should just be happy to hear that it is coming, especially after all that talk on the web about how JB HiFi and EB weren't going to stock Rock Band and only stock Guitar Hero: World Tour.
We'll just have to wait and see how that turns out.

Rock Band Australia

So...
Rock Band 2 is out in the US...
...and us here in Australia don't even have the first Rock Band...
...what...the...HELL?!!!

Rock Band 2 is out in the US now and still no mention of a release for the first Rock Band in Australia.
At the moment I feel like I shouldn't buy Rock Band when it comes out because I should wait for Rock Band 2.
But if this trend of Rock Band delays continue it could be 2010 before we get Rock Band 2.
I also know we it come out it will cost about as much as a new console with the stupid expensive games prices we have here.
I probably wouldn't be so annoyed if they just gave a reason as to this delay of ALMOST A YEAR!!!

I might be okay if they gave us some Australia only songs (I know they won't but I want to dream).
Some Cold Chisel or something like that would be great, although singing like Barnesy will quickly destroy your throat.
