My personal Game of The Year 2014 list

This year many of the big games I were most looking forward to didn't even make the list (or just barely made it). Now that is a pretty bad sign right away, 2014 were not a good year for games, generally speaking. Assassin's Creed Unity, Destiny, Watch_Dogs, all severely disappointing.

That's pretty bad.

Well, not entirely. There were games this year that surprised me, games I had not heard of or had just barely heard mentioned. Sequels to games I've not cared much about in the past. Games I'd expected to like that I loved.

So all in all, 2014 was kinda OK... I guess.

For the record, I counted 50+ games this year that I've played enough to form an opinion on.

List items

  • The most fun Assassin's Creed game yet... wait?!

This one did really surprise me. Sure the game looked good before release, but not that good. Man. The nemesis system, the open world gameplay, the graphics on PC, so good. I still have the DLC left to finish.

    Ratanák! Ratanák! Ratanák! Ratanák!

  • Started playing Divinity this month, hadn't really been on my radar at all until then. I'm not close to finishing it (I think), but it's so good. I can't wait to play more of it, actually, I'm going to go play it when I'm done with this list.

  • My first Souls game. For a long time this was my favorite game of the year, but then, surprise.

  • I love it, even the DLC was amazing!

  • "Call of Duty with jetpacks and mechs." Well, as Advanced Warfare also had "jetpacks" this year, so that kinda makes this, "Call of Duty with mechs" now huh.

Still, CoD did not have mechs, point goes to Titanfall.

  • Sooo, this surprised me.

The campaing was awesome, the multiplayer hooked me for a while, I really enjoy the added mobility the exosuit provided. Kevin Spacey.

I would have never thought this would be on my list.

    2014, what a weird year.

  • Not as good as Civ 5, but still pretty damn enjoyable.

    Just... One... More... Turn.

  • My second favorite Telltale series, behind the first season of The Walking Dead (2012 game of the year).

  • I heard of the game the day before I purchased it. The journey to lvl 50 was surprisingly fun. However, the end game content was lackluster. Haven't been back since. Maybe one day? Please?

  • The sequel to my second favorite game of 2012 just barely made the list.

I liked it, but it didn't hook me like 3 did at all. Maybe to similar, maybe not as good, or maybe 3 was just the right amount of game so that when I started 4 I had kinda had enough already.
