Matt and Steve take a slight detour on their journey through the most terrifying scary games ever made and play an action RPG! But while Vampire is not in and of itself a scary game, it contains within it one of the scariest levels in any video game period!

nothing about vampire was scary. Its hard to be scared when you are a super powerful wizard vampire. amazing game tho

Woah! Didn't see this coming (I'm serious)! The mission at Devil Mask Productions in Hollywood is waaaayscarier than the haunted mansion though. I love this game so I'm not complaining no matter what you show. Fear Gauntlet lives on!

In any case, I've played this game for around two hours and think it shows some promise. Obviously, that promise could easily be squandered, considering Troika's reputation. That haunted house though. SCARY?

Nope. I was referring to it as I have seen in video format. With a question mark. Because it wasn't scary. Nah, I'm still on the various little quests in Santa Monica, and I was going to play more before being distracted by Icewind Dale II (and subsequently being distracted from that by Heroes VI). I will get to it eventually, even if my scattershot ADD approach to game playing is occasionally detrimental to the actual completion of said games.

@Video_Game_King: Yeah it can be done, but only if you miss out on a ton of stuff before it. Its basically critical pathing everything. They are 45 minutes in already and not even in Santa Monica after all.

Also, totally agreeing with everyone else. Start over Malkavian, skip the intro, skip the tutorial now that you've done it, and press on. You will not regret it.

I'm pretty sure it's the Source 1.5 engine. Meaning, Half-Life went through multiple iterations of the Source engine during its development. Valve had to keep improving it, because it took them so damn long to finish Half-Life 2. In the meantime, they gave the small Troika studio their first iteration of the new physics-y engine they'd been developing. Because Troika was so small, they finished their game at the same time the new and improved engine was being released with Half-Life 2.

No, they're just using an early build of the Source engine. Not even sure it had reached beta-stage at that point.

Cool, pretty excited for this one. I've heard a lot about this game over the years.

I thought the hotel level was scary when i played it many years ago, maybe not so much these days because the graphics don't hold up that well. Big fan of this game, especially the first half.

I did not expect this to be the next episode of Fear Gauntlet, but I ain't complaining!

More Fear Gauntlet. Also subtitles please.

@Olivaw: @FunExplosions: The lackluster visuals of the game don't really have a lot to do with Troika having an early version of Source. Bloodlines was a troubled project in numerous respects, and the graphics were just one of many areas of the game which were left rough and/or unfinished.
