Great series so far, ending took me by surprise too. On a side note, Luigi's Mansion actually has Ghost Skeletons! Try to sleep soundly with that in mind.

oh wow, the ending startled the hell out of me. I was wearing headphones!

I remember this game being really bad, and it seems I was right...

I don't think I ever got past that Skeletape, though. Or I atleast never entered any castle.

That ending made me never want to play this game again, though, scary as hell! I knew that violin couldn't be trusted!

I liked this game when I played it. I remember at one point I had to fight a skeleton riding a motorcycle. Good times with the muddy textures of the N64,

I remember being a kid playing Legacy of Kain:Soul Reaver and being pretty scared of it. I had to turn down the music and dreaded everytime I had to go into the Spectral realm, because of all the creepy sounds.

It got to the point where, even when I got older and played the later games I still dreaded going there, even if it wasn't that scary anymore.

You guys should have suffered through it until you got to the garden full of chainsaw weilding maniacs that hunted you through the hedges.  These are kind of feeling incomplete if you don't bother to get into them a little!

Scariest thing back in the day was playing games on the snes with my brother at night with the sound muted hoping the parents wouldn't find out.

Do the first Devil May Cry for the next one. It wasn't scary either, but it would be wicked fun to watch.

@MattBodega: Just wondering, did you guys get to use the fancy new scan converter with this? This looks way better than I remember it.

The scariest part of Castlevania 64 is how poorly it has held up, which when considering that it wasn't a very good game to begin with, says something about the general staying power of games from that era. Yeah, the classics such as Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 have held up reasonably well, but once you get out of that bubble of stuff that worked it's a great way to rape your childhood memories. Looking forward to the part where you guys actually start playing games that are reasonably scary!
