The first gaming magazine I subscribed to was called PlayStation Solutions. It did all sorts of guides and hints/tips for the latest games. Now I was a kid with no money, so I hardly ever had any of these games that they did guides to, but I still loved reading the guides in that magazine for some reason. I was a weird kid.
Then I moved onto a Playstation magazine aimed at kids. I can't remember what it was called. It featured a cartoon dog and had a fair amount of toilet humour. It had a section called "Talking Poo" which was about shitty games. They did a redesign and became slightly edgier and aimed at a slightly older audience (more teenagers rather than younger kids) and then it shortly vanished off the face of the earth (I stopped subscribing at some point, so I don't know what happened. It just stopped being available in stores). That's pretty much everything I remember about it. Damnit, why can't I remember it's name!!!
After that I flipped between PLAY and the Official Playstation Magazine, but I don't think I actually subscribed to either. At this point the internet was getting big and I was getting most of my gaming stuff online. OPM had demo discs, though. Demo discs were awesome.
Hi mods. Hope everyone is well rested, but you're gonna miss Doctor Who if you start posting now...
Funnily enough I'm watching Dr. Who whilst trying to keep an eye on this thread. That's probably a bad idea since I'm kinda half-assing both tasks (although so far these comments aren't even close to the volume of yesterday, so it's not been too bad)
If Jeff can just come out and admit 8.8 was too low this whole shindig can come to an end...
This is the comment of the thread. Hands down!!!
If I remember correctly, that 8.8 was only the Wii version, the Gamecube version got an 8.9, and I think we can all agree that was just fine.
But he rated the Wii version down on sound. Because the Wii version has tinny sound coming out of the Wii remote. And you can turn off the Wii remote sound and the sound is exactly the same as the Gamecube version. Therefore Jeff is a terrible reviewer and should be fired from GameSpot.
(Those were genuine arguments used back in the day. I may have spent waaaay too much time on the GameSpot forums back in those days)
@dr_insane: I don't see any reason that the site can't be both. Why can't they talk about the fun aspects of video games AND the serious social issues that are effecting the industry? If you don't particularly like social commentary, you can stay away from those articles and focus on the other stuff. And people who do think that these issues are worth talking about can do so too.
Every piece of content on the site does not have to appeal to every single user.
