@sammo21: The last gen consoles had very strict size limits on game updates. Especially on 360, where not everyone had a hard drive because one of the early SKU's didn't come with a HDD. That's why the DLC character's weren't just included in a patch.
That shouldn't be an issue this time around with the PS4, XB1 and PC releases.
I'd be tempted to get on this, since I'm starting to diet & lose weight. Most of my current goals are diet-related though, and exercise is something I plan to gradually introduce and isn't something I'm planning on doing every day. Not for a while yet, anyway.
OK, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to actually submit my thing to the gamejam, but I'm going to make it anyway. I'm making a Giant Bomb dictionary for Typing of the Dead: Overkill. Typing out a load of Giant Bomb related words or phrases into a text document isn't exactly game development, but it counts!!! Kinda. It's a mod. I'm totally a legit modder!!!
I'm pretty sure the entirety of Typing of the Dead's dictionary integration is via Steamworks. There isn't, as far as I can tell, a way to just share a dictionary file outside of Steam. So I won't have anything to actually submit to itch.io and officially enter the gamejam. But it's still a cool little thing that I'm sure people will enjoy. I'll probably release the first version tomorrow.
I think I have a plan to contribute to this that means I won't actually have to learn how to make a game. It'll not compete with any of the awesome stuff people have shown off so far, obviously, but it should be a fun little thing. I'll update once I know whether or not my plan is going to work.
They were spitballing names and registering dozens of URLs before the site was announced. As great as suggestions like videogamemountain.com, snakesnakesnake.com and thwomp.com were, giantbomb.com won out.
They discuss it on a podcast. A very early bombcast. I don't remember the date, but I know it was just Jeff, Dave Snider and Alex (long before Alex actually joined the site) because everyone else was out of town. Maybe someone can track it down based on that information.
