You Know What I Find Annoying

Bosses with predictable patterns.  Not because they are easy, but because they are BORING.  You just sit there, going through the motions, avoiding the easy-to-avoid attacks and waiting for the scheduled opening to dish out your attack.  Rinse and repeat.  The only way you take damage is by simply not caring after a certain point and taking shots because you know you're going to win this one.  So why put on a significant effort?

Take the opening boss battle in Darksiders.  Wait for the boss to slam the ground, avoid the damage splash (how big a cliche is this one right here.  He'll do this twice, then reach into his lava pit and toss some cars at you.  Grab one, toss it at him (thankfully the game has lock-on otherwise there would be a challenge) and repeat the cycle one more time.  Hit him with two cars in a row, he'll fall to the ground leaving him open to sword strikes.  Then he'll get mad, blow some air (which again you have to avoid) and the entire process just repeats itself.

Please, developers, stop doing this.  I know it's easy because it's just a matter of AI programming but my God, is it a drag.

I Might Know Jack

I might have found a new addiction on XBox Live.  I am notoriously competitive when it comes to trivia games, always have been, even going back to my childhood with Trivial Pursuit and game shows I would watch.  I love knowledge, I love to express it and I love the competition that comes with trivia games.  I am getting nothing but screws on the new You Don't Know Jack: I love it.  Bring it, I'm pretty good on Call of Duty but don't really WANT to become great.  But with trivia gamers, it's like something dark opened up inside me and I just want to COMPETE.  The best part about playing on XBox Live is that you can be as hard, competitive and trash-talky as you want.  Unlike playing with friends, you don't want to be THAT GUY but there is a freedom online that I relish.

OK, this got more blunt that I wanted but good Lord, YDKJ is just awesome.

What I am playing this week

Beat Dead Space 2 the other night.  Fired up Black Ops and went 12-0 to start off on Havana with the Stakeout shotgun.  Think I`m going to make that little beast my go-to weapon from now on.  Played the hell out of some Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA simply because it holds up so damn well and I should get ready for May 3rd when His Dukeness returns.  Speaking of 90s FPS games: bought Wolfenstein 3D for XBLA but haven`t gotten around to playing it.  As well, really pumped for Bulletstorm even though I`ll be on vac ation when that monster hits.  What really sucks is my PS3 is still busted and I don`t have money for a repair so Killzone 3 is a huge maybe for me at this point.

Tomorrow? We'll see, probably more 90s FPS mash-ups with DN3D and Wolfenstein 3D.  I am such a sucker for those kind of games right now.
